if all else fails, READ THE DIRECTIONS! it's great for your self esteem.....GO for it!

I know sewing machines can be expensive. To start out if you do not want to purchase a new one , check out places where people go to have theirs repaired and also places that fix vacuums amazingly have alot of good used machines very inexpensive. My friend goes to these places and trades in sewing machines and vacuums that need minor repairs and or cleaning to get other items like used dishwashers and such they may need. I have purchased sewing machines in the past with basic stitches for as little as $25.

I made all my clothes-started when I was about 14 -made my sons also and when they were out of toddler clothes, I quit making mine also, as the patterns were really not my style, and I had no time to make up my own. Good luck trying to fine really nice patterns now. Guess we get to a certain age and don't wear "cocktail dresses etc. any more and it's so easy to find something on the rack. So == now it is quilts, etc. Times change!!

I just loaded a laundray basket with fabric and patterns to show my DIL. I am ready to start sewing for Olivia.

It takes all kinds of stitchers to keep the fabric store open. My sewing machine and I are great friends (although I think the bobbin should stay full longer). If you are having fun, you are doing the right thing for you. Don't try to keep up with another, sew to the beat of your own treadle.

I wish I could make my own clothes, although I have never tried yet. But it looks like it might be a little more to it than meets the eyes. But it would be nice to have all of my clothes sewn on my treadles!

Is there a reason you haven't tried? It really isn't as difficult as it seems. Sure, there are hard things to make, but most people don't wear that stuff more than once or twice in a life time. Shirts, pants, skirts, jumpers and pjs aren't that difficult. If you want help, just ask me. I can help you get started.

I might just have to do that.

I do have a book from the 1930's that is an hardbound book, really thick and is an instructional how to as far as sewing is concerned. I have glanced at it and they show you how to make your own patterns and so forth. It covers interiors, clothing, and accessories. Pretty interesting book.

But I guess I was thinking that there was a lot more to making clothing. I might go to Hancocks and find a shirt pattern and see if I can make me a shirt out of some hot rod material that I have stashed away.....
