Joanne,
Penny squares are blocks of muslin with printed or drawn designs on them. They used to sell them in the olden days preinked and precut, and ready for redwork for a penny each, thus the name penny squares or penny blocks. Shelly |
I do it's relasxing to me while my little one naps in the afternoon
I like cross stitsh frankie |
I have always meant to learn to embroider by hand , but haven't taken the time. I did a pillow in I think it is called crewel. Also some cross stitch.
I used to love to sit and watch my grandmother do tatting! On my list of things to learn to do. Ninnie |

I use to do it more years ago. Recently did a blanket for my new granddaughter's baptism. I made it of two layers of polar fleece and did a large bunch of white roses made of ribbon in one corner and 3 white roses with rose bud in the oppisite corner. I then embroidered the stems and leaves in two colors of green ribbon. When I sewed it together I used a diamond quilting across the whole blanket and used the wide white ribbon you use to see on blankets years ago as the binding. It came out beautiful. Sorry did not take a picture, ask me why???? I just did not think to do it. Sad thing is they baptised the baby much later and it was summer so they never used the blanket.

Yes, I do...pillowcases, dishtowels and anything else I take a fancy to. I taught my grandaughter 4 years ago, when she was 9 and she picks it up once in a while. I also taught her how to make an easy 9 patch quilt that helped her learn to use the sewing machine and also hand quilting. To me its very relaxing and makes beautiful gifts.
