Tonight is National Night Out! Do any of you celebrate?
My neighborhood has a get-together. We all bring some food to share, and we have ice cream. It's so nice to be able to see all my neighbors, at least once a year. It seems to help with crime, we all keep an eye on each others houses. Having personally met the person who lives "in that house over there" makes me feel more protective, and more likely to call the police if I see something "fishy" going on... I've also learned that I sure do like my neighbors!!
Anyways!! I didn't mean to ramble!
What does your neighborhood do, if anything?

I never heard of it before, but it sounds really nice! Have fun tonight!

I had never heard about it until a few years ago, but I'm glad I know about it now!

we have in the past, and received a invitation for this year, but I think we will pass. Just too tired this time. I did make a dish just in case the family wants to go. I like having the option.

Nope, I live in the middle of nowhere and do not even lock my doors!

We have "Night to Unite" in our area. Part of our street is blocked off. We will walk up the hill with a plate of cookies and hopefully met some neighbors. we have been in this house 3 years and this is the first time we were informed of this. It will be nice to meet some more people on our street.

I just got home from one of our "nights out". Our local one is set up in a park with all kinds of booths and things for the kids to do. My daughter does "Child ID cards". Its been her special project for our counties Sheriff's dept. Its a great night and it was PACKED!!

Its great to attend one of these events, but its not like when I grew up. "In the ol' days" everyone in town knew who everyone was. I couldn't go anywhere without my mom or dad knowing where I was and what I was up to. It speaks to the well known saying "It takes a village to raise a child". Those eyes gave me the freedom to explore and ride my bike miles from home. My husband grew up in Manhattan - the "Village". He too experienced the same thing. So, it wasn't just small towns.

funny you should ask We just participated in a daytime version we were one of the booths that supported Police/fire/military!! It was so cool to see how the police work. I think every department was there!

Not anymore. We also live in the middle of nowhere, leave our doors unlocked, garage open, but have three dogs inside that will chew you to pieces if we aren't here. Outside, they are pussycats. Since we have about 100 houses on our 12 miles of road, we pretty much know who is visiting and who lves here. We all wave to each other and eyeball the strangers. Most own guns for various reasons too so that keeps most at bay.
