MOST small dogs have accidents all the time, but their poo is usually so firm and small that it is easily disgarded

Wait until the dog is house broken and then get carpet. I live in Minnesota and the winters are cold and carpet makes it warmer. I've had 3 dogs and have 2 cats right now and the carpet has never been a problem. Everyone has an opinon so do what you want.

I trained my dog in a crate. It was the best investment I ever did. Your puppy/dog will have accidents but always reward him when he does a good job and asks to go out and does his duty. Flooring or carpet will work, but he will have an accident so do the clean up immediately. Enjoy your new puppy, as they are fun and good company.

I love dogs, but I hate carpet We have tile with a lot of area rugs. Lots easier to clean

If the dog you are planning to get is not housebroken, I would wait until that is accomplished. After that is done, I would go ahead and install the carpet and realize there will be accidents from time to time. Invest in some carpet cleaner to have on hand?

We have a dog and carpet. Our solution is to buy puppy training pad for our dog to use--he's 2 yrs old and trained to use them. There are mishaps and are easy to clean up. No worse than having a litter box for a cat. I use baking soda to keep the smell down and not bad for the carpet. An expense, but everyone is happy.

Forgot to say that he's a chichuahua, not a big dog.

We are getting ready to pull up the carpet and put down hardwood flooring. I'll just use throw rugs that can be tossed in the washer. We have a large yellow lab and I cannot believe the amount of fur that comes off that guy. I'll make sure to keep his nails trimmed.

That would make a great sewing room !
