Don't Know What it Is

1 Attachment(s)
My sister was given a bag of items including thread and crochet stuff. In the bag was this roll of some sort of tape. It is shiny on both sides giving the impression that it may be to iron one item to another. It 3 3/4 inches wide, and as you can see there is a lot of it. She would like to use it but does not know what it is for. There are no numbers or markings of any kind on the tube.

Do you have any ideas?

I would see if it would fuse two pieces of fabric and then wash to see how it held up. I haven't seen a roll of fusible that wide before but it could be from an upholstery drapery shop.

It does look like an interfacing of some type for upholstery/drapery projects.

looks a bit like the stuff to join carpets with

Looks like it may be for the headers on drapes. Makes them stiff as well so you can make pleats and insert hooks. Just my thought.

Try ironing a piece and see how it goes. It kind of looks like dry wall tape to me? Is it stiff or pliable, fabric or plastic?

It looks like a tape I once used on drapery fabric.

My thought also.

It is fairly pliable, but thicker than anything I've ever used for machine applique. It feels as though it may be some sort of plastic.

It looks like a tape for a drapery header to me.

I believe I have some of this in a drawer. It is for drapes, mostly for a valance. It lets you use a cheaper, narrow rod. You thread this through your large pocket then put the narrow rod behind it. Gives your valance more body. I believe I got mine years ago from Country Curtains.

If it is cloth but feels kind of like paper too, I think it might be the cloth they use for drapes, to make them stiff where the pleats are. I really don't know what else you would use this for unless you cut it into perfect squares and made string quilts, very small string quilt blocks.

Try to join two pieces of batting with it. It may be that is what it is for

I used it once to line a drapery tie-back, it's expensive stuff.

Hope you and your family are OK are Oklahoma!

I use to make my own cloths and I bought what looks like this for collars - waistbands and cuff s stiffener.

It is for making drapes. It is called pleaters tape.
It is for the tops.

nananurse 05-21-2013 02:51 PM

I was thinking the same thing.

lynnie 05-21-2013 05:11 PM

looks like backing for emb machines on golf knit shirts

OldHairTwister 05-21-2013 07:02 PM

I vote for the headers for draperies too.

Wonnie 05-22-2013 05:23 PM

My first thought was a roll of toilet paper....silly me...

DebbE 05-22-2013 06:37 PM

Drapery header tape -- I use that when I make drapes for my windows. Makes the nice stiff pleats you want on nice drapes to put the hooks into. Wouldn't make drapes without it!
