Double knit /Cotton
I have a lot of this and it is all plain colors. Do you think I could make the rugs that everyone is making with this? Maybe cut the 2 1/2 inch strips against the stretch? What do you think? Will it work?

I don't know which pattern you have in mind, but I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well as making it with quilter's cotton.

I am going to try it soon so I show it on here and tell I used cotton double knit.

When I washed dbl knit, 36" was 27" later.

I would try it in a heart beat. My sister has made several rugs with it. She had a pile of double knits years ago and made not only a throw quilt she made rugs. They hold up very well. She made these were made about 25 years ago or more and she still uses them.

Wow , Thanks for all the post, I will wash them first so the rugs won't shrink so much.

Are you talking about cotton interlock?
If so - it is an awesome fabric - it mostly stretches crosswise, with comparatively little lengthwise stretch. My Mom used to weave rugs on a two-harness loom, and she would use knits a lot - but she cut them so the strips were not stretchy. I used to wash the fabrics before passing them on to her. She would not have liked wavy edged rugs caused by uneven shrinkage of the components used. I think she made one rug from nylons. She did not enjoy the experience. |
