The dress that almost did me in

Here is the "play" dress that almost drove me crazy if not for the Christmas tree skirt that gave me respite! Trying to sew with 5/8 seam allowances was almost impossible and reducing an adult size six to a child's size six was ridiculous. Anyway it is done and she loves it.. Even found some old jewelry to finish off the look. Just need to make some belt loops to keep the medallion at the Empire line.
I m sticking to quilting.

What a beautiful princess! She looks gorgeous.

tessagin 10-26-2014 04:32 PM

She looks gorgeous! Not a bad job! I understand though. My nieces prom dress was altered from a size 16 to a size 6. They wanted to save money. Now that dress was a disaster.

Crqltr 10-26-2014 04:35 PM

Beautiful little girl! Bet she thinks you are a super hero!

Jingle 10-27-2014 03:02 AM

Beautiful girl and dress. I no longer sew clothes and haven't for many years. All I make now are quilts.

kathy 10-27-2014 03:06 AM

I know from the look on her face that it was worth every hair you pulled out! grandma's are the best! I don't remember it but my mom said her mom made me and my baby doll lots of matching outfits!

Absolutely beautiful but I feel your pain. Years ago, my now grown boys wanted Star Trek New Generation costumes for Halloween. There were 15 pattern pieces and not one was placed on a fold. Did I mention they had to be laid on stretch fabric? I nearly went nuts but the results were wonderful. They wore the costumes with their moon boots and looked very authentic. Your grand daughter will never forget this dress and someday she'll understand the work that went into it.

Adorable!

toverly 10-27-2014 03:41 AM

Beautiful! And she is old enough to remember when you made her dress. Good job!

Moonglow 10-27-2014 04:01 AM

Beautiful dress for a beautiful young lady. You did a great job.

Stitchnripper 10-27-2014 04:23 AM

Beautiful girl and beautiful costume. I've made a bunch of costumes over the years for the grandkids who don't live close and their mother keeps losing the cloth tape measures I give her! So I am always surprised when they come close to fitting. You did a great job with the cutting down the larger pattern. It looks wonderful!!!!

mountain-moma 10-27-2014 05:30 AM

Awesome dress and the little lady wearing the dress is just beautiful

Wanabee Quiltin 10-27-2014 05:51 AM

sherryl1 10-27-2014 06:11 AM

Why didn't you just but another pattern. My time is worth more then the price of a pattern. They sell them so cheap at JA.

Iraxy 10-28-2014 09:09 AM

Lately my family has needed reminding that I am a quilter not a seamstress. But how can you resist a smile like that one and a beautiful model? It came out great, she looks beautiful. Enjoy!

callen 10-28-2014 10:21 AM

Lovely dress for an equally lovely young lady !! You can tell, she loves it. Great job.

sharin'Sharon 10-28-2014 11:44 AM

Oh, how I can relate to your situation. I had to redo a junior bridesmaid dress from a Junior 10 to a girls size 10 for our granddaughter, which wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the style of dress. Came out like a charm, thankfully. Thanks for sharing.

maryfrang 10-28-2014 01:03 PM

Great job. Cute princess. You are the lucky one. A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to alter a teens cheerleader outfit. It was a Junior XL size (about a 14) and had to make it over to Woman's 22. The seam was not big enough. I had to get new fabric, a poly gabardine and cut a pattern from the original uniform. Then take all the school stuff of the original and put them on the new one. Got it done, and fit the girl great. Well three weeks into the season, she is loosing weight and the skirt is too big. At least we can take the waist in.

YC Quilter 10-28-2014 01:38 PM

Hoping I didn't set a precedent. She's the oldest of 5!

Momo 10-28-2014 03:38 PM

Precious! All the way!

kathyd 10-28-2014 04:07 PM

Oh the things we make for kids and grandkids. Great job.

coopah 10-28-2014 04:30 PM

bearisgray 10-28-2014 10:10 PM

From the pictures - it sure looks like it was worth it!

milikaa1 10-28-2014 10:19 PM

Well it is a nice dress....I don't know how people sew lol, I can not understand the patterns and instructions, people laugh at me because I can quilt but not "sew", but you did a great job.

BETTY62 10-28-2014 11:34 PM

Photo #1 says it all. She loves it and she looks awesome wearing it.

mjhaess 10-30-2014 01:48 PM
