I sometimes dye my hair at home or a salon but no matter where or how much it cost, I have dyed looking hair, anyone can spot a head full of dyed hair. I quit dying my hair and let it be what it wanted to be. I went to a new hairdresser for a cut and she was excited about a new dye procedure she had learned. I think it's been around for a long time but in a small town in the South, it slow to get a hairdresser to learn new methods. She wanted me to try it so I said fine. She put the color on my hair in thin streaks about 1/2" apart. Then she combed through it one time, only one time. After it set, washed it out and my hair looks great. It does not look like a head full of dyed hair, lots of different shades of my original color from dark, med, light to some of the silver. Not a big noticeable change but a nice looking change.

That sound beautiful. My hair in front is white and I love it but the back is still black, grey silver white. A little bit of everything. I had it blonde for awhile but having black hair all of my life, my coloring is not right for a blonde. So I guess I will live with whatever it tuns out.

That's wonderful. I always dye my own hair and it always looks good but this last time I bought a dark auburn and my hair had pink streaks running through it. Oh you should have seen the looks I got when I went to wm. I just laughed about it. It has toned down after several washings.

I dye mine at home, because with this amount of hair it is waaaay too espensive to have it done. I have to use two boxes of color. If I go too dark it looks dyed, but usually if it is lighter it looks etter. It is better than the white it turns. If it was a pretty silver I would leave it, but like the rest of my family it is white.

I'd trade you my silver for your white any day!

When still in Houston i had my hair high lighted. then after going gray a lot i had it "low" lighted. they did parts and then went in that part with the long end of the comb and made a crooked part going in and out, took only half of that amount of hair, laid foil under it and put on color. folded up the foil and went on to another crooked part, etc.
several colors can be added this way. Colorado is just now (after living up here 20 yrs) getting caught on to this method. all they knew here was frosting( pulling hair through holes in a plastic cap). yuck.

Sounds like what I need. A couple of years ago my mom asked what I was putting in my hair. I told her it was Grey! DH has not let me forget it either. My hair is now the same color as my skin, and just looks blah.

I have a hard time finding a color for my red hair. If I go with an auburn or red it turns out magenta or orange. If I go with brown I lose the red highlights. I've been going brown and it does tone down after several washings. But just as it's getting where I like it I'm seeing gray roots and have to dye again. Just my vanity I guess. All my life I've gotten compliments on my hair so I've considered it one of my assets. I hate to see it go.

I have never dyed my hair and it is true black but someone is always asking what color I use on it. I told them if they could find a true black like mine that did not look dyed I would patent it for them. LOL. I have a few grey/white in the front but my DH says in the back I am getting more. I can't see it though. LOL. I think it is fun if you have hair the color you can dye it well, my DD and DIL both do it and it is different all the time but nice. I call them my CHameleons. That is SO smart!!! That way, the hair takes up dye a little differently where she first applied! How come no one ever thought of that before???

Vidal Sassoon (sp?) once said that gray hair is God's way of softening wrinkles. If, as we age, we decide to color the gray we should always go several shades lighter than the natural color of our youth. He said that really dark hair on older people had a tendency to also darken the wrinkles in the face.

It stuck with me and now I just decided to let the wrinkles be soft. LOL No dye here.

I have just recently started dying my hair this past year. I'm a natural redhead and every year it gets more brown in it. I hate it when I'm with my DD and they ask, "Where does she get her red hair from"? DUH...Me...I am still trying to find the right color that I really like. I guess I'll be looking this weekend because I can see the roots coming.

I started getting white hairs prematurely when my grandfather went through cancer and passed away. over time, I got more and more, and when I turned 40, I finally gave in and started to go to a prfessional salong to have it colored. My hair is a reddish brown, and I have strawberry blond and blonde highlights in it. I love it! I have to admit that going with a lighter color really does soften the face.

My stylist uses the foil method, and I go to an Aveda salon. They custom mix the dye. No one can tell that I have colored hair, and I get compliments on it. If yo can find someone who knows how to use foil and custom-mixed dye, try it

I decided to embrace my silver grey hair years ago. I got so tired of hearing people telling me that I looked tired - I couldn't find the right colour to dye my hair that looked good with my skin tone.

When I turned 60 my BIL made the mistake of telling me I am now a blue-haired little old lady. Sooooooo.........

Wonder how that process would work for me because I have to keep the dye on my gray roots for much longer than the rest of the hair. I also have to keep the dye from the ends of my permed hair until that last few mintues as that hair takes the dye too quickly. Instead of different colored strands of hair I'd have different color bands of hair, LOL! Maybe I should just go grey and do away with all of it. May in Jersey

In my teens and early 20's I colored my hair every color imaginable, but then I realized that I really liked my natural color! I always thought my hair was one of my better assets, then lost it all a couple of years ago due to chemo. My hair came back thicker (was previously very thick) and darker, with lots of lowlights and highlights, including some very blond streaks. I get lots of compliments on it, but no one believes that it hasn't been "done"!

My DD#1 is a freshman at college this year. We stopped by to see her on Friday...all is well. Last night, about 9pm I get a text:

Mom. I messed up my hair.

Turns out she bought a $3 bottle of color at Wal-Mart and wanted auburn, but got essentially the same color as her normal hair, with red roots.

But before I knew that, My text to her:

Bahahaaaa! Um, you know I could have helped you with this BEFORE you dyed it, right?

Mines a natural dk red too, butif I usea dye with red in it, it always looks pink. EEEWWW, now I just go natural brown. I do it myself, but learned from a friend who used to do hair. The new way sounds neat!

I've given up on dying my hair. I always did it myself, but I hated fooling with the dye. Now it is mostly gray. My hairdresser says it is a beautiful color, so I'll take her word for it! LOL

Never died, tinted, or highlighted mine so can't grasp some of this.

My two DS have. My oldest DS still highlights and it looks terrible. We tried to tell her but to no avail. After her breast cancer and the chemo, her hair came in almost black and curly. Neither looked good on her so she started dyeing it.
Other DS quit and he natural brown with grey is very becoming.
Guess it is all in how we look at ourselves.

My hair was nearly white. On top & sides. Underneath in the back it was very dark brown with gray sprinkled in. I got my haircut last Thursday & decided to go short. Right below the ear all & almost up to the neckline. Cut worked super. But....it looked like I had a white bowl on my head with the dark showing underneath it. My fab. hairdresser said "This will just not work!" She looked & had plenty of time so she foiled a dk. brown in the top half of my hair to match & blend with the back. I may regret doing this later, but for now I just love it! I now have salt & pepper looking hair. She said she would have to do the roots about every other haircut. I go 8-10 weeks between cuts. It def took a few yrs off of my face.

Barbara it looks good I do that sort of thing makes me feel unique, my dd says she likes it to.

Yep....love that look Barbara. I haven't dyed my hair since I turned 31....I love the freedom of not having to "touch up" all the time. I also keep it cropped pretty short (my husband cuts it for me)...so these days I save heaps on cuts and "products" and don't even own a hairbrush...more money for fabric!
