dying crochet doily

A while back I was in Lancaster PA and they were selling doilies that were dyed a bronze color. I fell in love with the color and should have bought one of them. But......since I crotchet I didn't. I have made several doilies since then and have tried tea dying, coffee, and onion skins. I just can't seem to get that deep bronze color. Does anybody have any ideas? Thank you!

It will probably depend on the fiber content of the crochet thread you used for how much dye they will pick up. I would try a commercial dye like Rits and see if you have better luck. All cotton thread will dye better than a poly/cotton mix.
