Wow, we just had an earthquake here. Well, it was in Mexico, but we felt it all the way up here. It just rolled and rolled. Lasted about 45 seconds. Our blinds and chandelier were swinging pretty good. First one we have felt for a long time!

Granna of 5 04-04-2010 03:29 PM

That is a scary thought. I am sure glad we don't have many here. Glad everything is OK with you....

KarenSimon 04-04-2010 03:35 PM

I'm in Tucson AZ. I felt it.

rivka 04-04-2010 03:35 PM

That was a long one, for sure!!

Up North 04-04-2010 03:42 PM

So far sounds like the most of you are OK hope it stays that way, Sounds like you are in for a shakey evening. How long do aftershocks go on? Watching CNN News and they are happening pretty fast, one after another.

littlehud 04-04-2010 03:46 PM

I'm glad you are all OK. Those are so scary.

CAROLJ 04-04-2010 03:47 PM

They said it was a 6.9, had things fell off the shelf in the garage. Doesn't seem to be any damage.

starlight 04-04-2010 04:02 PM

Just read about that hope that everything is okay out there.

Quilter7x 04-04-2010 04:05 PM

Wow, we sure have had a lot of earthquakes this year. So glad you are all OK.

Bettia 04-04-2010 04:08 PM

I am so glad everyone is ok.
Please help me here.
I live in Colorado and it is about 6:05 or 18:05.
California is 1 hour earlier than CO, so it is 17:05.
How can your posting time be in the 19:00s?
My message is coming up 20:08, what am I missing?

It must post east coast time.

no1jan 04-04-2010 04:08 PM

Glad everyone is alright! I used to live in S. California and believe me I don't miss the earthquakes.

Around 1969-1970, I don't remember the date, there was a bad one. We were at least 150 miles from the epicenter and lost 3 ft of water in our swimming pool from splashing alone. Our pool ended up with a huge crack but we were all fine.

I am so glad that you had no major damage and everyone is ok!

Crafty1 04-04-2010 04:19 PM

So glad everyone is alright. I just heard from my boyfriend so I text my SIL and they are ok too! They live in San Diego area and now calling my brother and SIL in LA area (err no answer). Oh no, I gotta call my son who is visiting CA. Just called and Whew, he's fine, he's in San Jose area.

CAROLJ 04-04-2010 04:23 PM

I imagine there will be damage in Mexico, haven't heard yet.

sewgull 04-04-2010 05:27 PM

Just read about the quake on AOL. Glad you and otheres in the area are OK.

judee0624 04-04-2010 05:31 PM

Yup, I am just south of you. No damage here. The rolling was loooong! Thank goodness we don't have chandeliers.

This one was quite the shaker. It went on much longer than any other that I've felt, but no damage at all. Just my nerves :-) It's been a while since we've had one. I heard this has been upgraded to a 7.2. That's pretty substantial.

CAROLJ 04-04-2010 05:35 PM

They said the after shocks are hitting as far north as the Salten City (Salten Sea) big chance the 7.2 was a fore shock. I guess all we can do is wait and see.

Alu_Rathbone 04-04-2010 06:44 PM

I just read about that and heard about it on the news. At least everyone is okay!!! That was a strong one!

Chasing Hawk 04-04-2010 07:23 PM

I went through the Loma Preta in 1989. Not to long after my daughter was born. I just got out of the shower and she was asleep on the bed, the apartment shook. I jump on her to shield her. That goodness the building didn't collapse cause the firemen would have found a nude woman protecting her infant under the rubble.

dglvr 04-04-2010 07:40 PM

I just talked to my mom in Yuma Az and they were driving and
couldn't figure out why their truck was acting funny.
They didn't figure it out til they got to where they were going and everyone was talking about how everything in there house was shaking. Scaaaaarry

Jim's Gem 04-04-2010 07:50 PM

We didn't feel it up here in Ventura County. Our families in Orange County felt it though!

amma 04-04-2010 08:07 PM

I heard about it on the radio, I am glad that you are ok

Darlene loves Chocolates 04-04-2010 08:36 PM

my daughter called me tonight, but I was resting and did not answer the phone....now I know why she called, she is in So Cal.

She is fine.

You just never know what can occur...from now on, I will always answer the phone.

Not unusual for some to feel it and others not. We lived on Oregon coast in 1980, about 250 miles from Mt. St. Helens. My SIL lived in Salem, about 156 miles from the mountain. When it blew, we felt it and they didn't in Salem!!!!

Pats8e8 04-04-2010 09:38 PM

It rolled forever. I told DH it could stop because it was making me sick to my stomach.(I tend to get sea sick too). You know, they don't usually bother us out here, we are used to them. We call the good ones an E ride at Disneyland. Any of you old enough to remember the D & E rides?? ;)

I'm old enough and this quake was definately an E ticket :!:

Margie 04-04-2010 10:59 PM

Praise God you are all ok. Blessings

Ive been through them all - Sylmar, Northridge, Whittier (when I actually lived in Whittier). This one was the longest I can recall.

judee0624 04-05-2010 06:57 AM

I am, and yes, it was like that.

craftybear 04-07-2010 06:09 PM

was there any damage? or injuries?

CAROLJ 04-07-2010 06:54 PM

They red tagged my husband's office in Calexico. There was minor damage, but the building connecting his had quit a bit. My parents had minor damage with things falling of shelves and breaking.
