We had our home built in 2009, since then we have experienced the record breaking tornado, snow storm, ice storm, high heat, fires, flooding in okc and now the earthquake. Omg, what's next?

I felt a jolt and a photo I have on a spring balanced frame began to swing back and forth. I told my son I felt an earthquake jolt and he just laughed until this morning he read the news and checked the time. I live in SE New Mexico quite a distance from OK so it must have been a deep earthquake. I am a retired teacher and have a degree in Geology Sciences so knew it had to be an earthquake somewhere, was surprised it was from such a distance. If I had not been quietly reading I probably would not have noticed it. My granddaughter goes to school at OU so am waiting to here what she has to say.

Being old enough to have weathered multiple quakes, including being right on the epicenter of the Northridge, CA earthquake, there are a couple of things we always and/or never do: always keep your glasses in your bedside table at night, not on top of it - always keep some sort of shoes or slippers by the bed (broken glass is one of the biggest causes of injury in quakes) - get under a substantial table if possible - do not run outside, especially at night, it is just too hard to see electrical wires, trees, falling chimneys.

we were always told to go to doorways, but think about all the pix you have ever seen on the news....there's always a bldg with an entire side gone and all the bathrooms stacked on top of one another and complete....small room spans, lots of pipes to reinforce everything....we all head for the bathrooms... san diego resident for 40 + years...

Tammy-I live in Maryland and just a couple of months ago we had one. Our house was shaking like a washer off balance! I took out
Earthquake insurance. Some friends and family think that I'm silly, but if we are ever hit with another one that did major damage no Way could we take on a new mortgage. I had to wait one week after the last tremor before I could take out the insurance. I may never need it, but it gives me piece of mind. |
