Egg Gathering Apron?
 

Howdy y'all :o

I've been trying to find a pattern or tutorial on how to make an egg gathering apron. For anyone not familiar with them, they are aprons that have 10 small pockets on them to put eggs in that a person with chickens can use to go to their chicken coop to check for eggs. I have found one YouTube video showing how to do it, but all of the measurements they use are in metrics. I'm not the slightest bit experienced in measuring fabric in meters and centimeters, so that particular tutorial does me no good. Has anyone seen a pattern or tutorial anywhere that doesn't use metric measurements? I've seen some for sale on Etsy, but I'm hoping to find a free one somewhere. Thanks! :o

You can use online sites to convert from metric to inches and feet. It's not really that hard.

That would be so cool - I know people with chickens - let me know if you find one.

Well, I would think that you could just sort of eyeball the size for the eggs and add the strip of pockets to a regular type apron. As for metric to inches--it isn't rocket science and as cashs-mom said, there are sites that will do the math for you.

And rule of thumb is 2.5 centimeters equals 1 inch more or less.

Agreeing with CashsMom and Ginger ... not rocket science!!
Just convert the measurements over. It's easy enough.

Or skip the pockets, as in the old-days, when they just pulled their apron up, and put the eggs in, loose!!

In the Quilt book Egg Money by Eleanor Burns, It tells the women just used the regular apron and pull the apron up to hold the eggs when gathering them.

that is what I do when gathering eggs, but I might have to make one for my grand daughter. they just got their own flock and have just started laying......Great idea.

I've gathered in an apron pulled together, a sweatshirt, whatever I was wearing. Usually a bowl or pan was used but sometimes the little stinker hens would lay their eggs out in the yard where you weren't expecting.
