Elastic thread

Have any of you ever used elastic thread in your sewing machine? I saw a cute scarf at the mall. It was only a piece of fleece with two rows of elastic thread down each side so it kind of ruffled up. It was $38 (but it was a Vera wang). It would be so easy to make. They have the thread at Joann's. It says to hand wind the bobbin but I wondered if anyone has experience with it and some tips to give.
Thanks.

You can zigzag over it or stitch it with a cording foot.

I use it my knitting machine to start the first row but haven't used it in my sewing machine. I think using a cording foot would work great, no need to thread it on the machine.

Here is a quick scarf I made for my girls. Tee shirts, fleece, flannel, or silky fabric print can used. http://sew-whats-new.com/profiles/bl...ruffled-tshirt

Yes, I did it with my zig zag foot, and my gathering foot for shirring and it looked better with my gathering foot
