I think it is... but we don't have elk here and I've never seen one in person so I'm not sure.

Murphy 11-15-2010 08:32 AM

Yes, this is an Elk. Lovely panel.

SharonC 11-15-2010 08:32 AM

Yes. Before I'd seen an Elk I was told to look for a deer on steroids (:)). This is an Elk.

Sadiemae 11-15-2010 08:32 AM

You are correct. That is really beautiful!

feline fanatic 11-15-2010 08:33 AM

angelwatcher 11-15-2010 10:24 AM

He looks like an elk bugling for a girlfriend, doesn't see the cow behind him apparently!! Or is he letting all the other bulls know she's his!!

azgal 11-15-2010 10:27 AM

Definitely an elk. We see them all the time here. Beautiful panel!

mayday 11-15-2010 10:43 AM

It is a beautiful elk :D:D:D

Here is a link to the red deer that mayday is referring to. It does look the same as our elk, only different colored fur :D:D:D

Beautiful panel. You gonna make a quilt out of it?

auntmag 11-15-2010 06:36 PM

Yes, the male is called a bull and the female is a cow elk.

amandasgramma 11-15-2010 06:38 PM

yip, elk -----and I LOVE the panel! Where did you get it?

Favorite Fabrics 11-15-2010 07:06 PM

It's a new (yet to be released) fabric by Springs, from a group they've named "Calling the Herd". So whoever mentioned "bugling" would be right!

I was thinking of ordering it for the store, but I figured it would be best to find out for sure whether this indeed was an elk, lest I foolishly call it by the wrong name.

Beautiful panel. Yep it's a bull Elk & they sure are big. My huz & I took a drive to see them in person here in PA several years ago. Saw a few with radio collars on. The herd was feeding in a clearing & one male was chasing female. He was bugling & oh my was it loud.

trolleystation 11-16-2010 05:50 AM

An elk it is...just like the ones we saw in Yellowstone Park. Very majestic animals.

Well, cool! I can't wait for it to be released! We saw a herd running in some fields not far from our house. It was awesome!

What a beautiful panel!
Sometimes it is hard to find "realistic" clear animals in fabric. This one is amazing! Horses are another one. I hear there is one coming out called "Morning Run" by Wilmington that is another "Must have". Be sure and let us know when the elk is released would love to get a panel of it.

"Morning Run" is already available; in fact, we carry that line. The panel we already sold out of, and I'm *hoping* that Wilmington Prints will decide to do a second run.\

For the elk group... I would guess that it's at LEAST 3 months out. Springs is notorious for saying that the fabrics will be ready in, say, March... and they actually straggle in many months later. (Very frustrating all around!)

What a beautiful panel

JuBee 11-16-2010 06:41 PM

Beautiful Panel.
Very similar to an original painting we own by Vivi Crandall. She called the painting "Pavarotti".

"Pavarotti"? Because they "sing"?

Yes it's a Elk,i can hear him now.

donnalynett 11-16-2010 11:56 PM

This was a good reminder for me to quit taking things for granted.....I am so used to seeing elk, the ocean, deer, etc. I sometimes forget some people never get to see the beautiful things I see every day. Thank you!
