Embroidered Wall Hanging

I want to make embroidered wall hangings for my grandchildren. At least one will be Winnie the Pooh. What would be the best fabric to use for a background...just regular fabric?

I use linen.

I look for a really high quality light fabric. I like one with a tight weave and I sometimes use a small white on white or Kona cotton. Some people use a lightweight fusible or 2 pieces of fabric but I prefer one layer of good cotton fabric.

I agree with Tartan, however sometimes I do use a good quality muslin, depending on the look I am searching for. Don't forget to post the results.

I use cotton for most embroidery projects and then it depends on the stitch count as to what kind of type of stabilizer I use Floriani's workbook for guidence on this. I buy my WS at Hancocks and use the coupon and then buy several yards at a time.

Are you talking about hand or machine embroidery? If you are doing machine I'd use something sturdy like Duck cloth.
I've used both linen and muslin for hand work.

I would think linen would be best but I don't embroider much.
