My language teachers at school always told me to be glad I was born English as it's one of the hardest languages to learn! My DH is Dutch and speaks excellent English. Often he'll ask me why things are the way they are with English grammar or spelling, like for example 'through' and 'rough' - you only add a 'th' but the pronunciation changes completely! I tell him, 'I don't know, it's just to p@#s off foreignors, I guess!' :lol:

Homonyms were fun! I had the best english teacher, i hated all the work she made us do, but now, i could just kiss her!

That is so true...then throw in all the different regional dialects/slang...I don't know how anybody can learn this language...heck, I was born here and I have trouble! :lol: :lol:

LOL - I also told her that I knew people who were born here. They didn't speak no good English either.

My Japense friend always complains about English spelling. Why can the same letter make more than one sound or no sound at all? In Japanese every character has one sound. Period. If you see that character, it will always make the same sound. Wouldn't that make everyone's life easier?

Most definitely Lisa. I think Spanish is similar in that all letters but H are pronounced and only one way. I'm glad to already know the English language because it is a very hard one to learn!

English is supposed to be the hardest language in the world to learn.....I cant understand why....I never had any trouble! lol!
