Just curious about how many of you use facebook. I like keeping up w/all the craft groups such as hancock fabrics, favecrafts, inspired at home, etc.

memathomas 03-02-2010 01:55 AM

i do

fabric-holic 03-02-2010 03:32 AM

I do too.

gailmitchell 03-02-2010 04:31 AM

I'm new to facebook. Is it worth following these. Do they announce their specials. Are there facebook only specials that I'm missing?

LindaR 03-02-2010 06:02 AM

I can't say I'm thrilled with facebook....not much conversation going on, people comment, like, etc and not much else...am I wrong or do I have the wrong friends LOL

memathomas 03-02-2010 06:18 AM

it's mostly to post you photos and keep up with friends just like a message board no real conversation we keep up with the grandkids this way you know they never call lol

i post my quilts when they are done so out of town family can see them then they want one.!!!!

I am a little dissapointed. I have found some people I have not heard from for years and after short re-introductions, found out why we are not in contact: Nothing in common any more. I do follow places like my local quilt shop for sales, but not much social aspect there. I reach more people here than in FB.

JoyVoltenburg 03-02-2010 07:19 AM

I'm on facebook. I got hooked on farmville for a while, and it's a good way to keep in touch with relatives that don't live close by.

Barbm 03-02-2010 07:23 AM

I'm on fb, but use it to catch up with old friends, know what my kids are up too and generally be nosy.

I don't do farmville, mafia wars, etc. waste of time.

Deb G 03-02-2010 07:31 AM

I do.

mosquitosewgirl 03-02-2010 07:38 AM

I do, too.

mytwopals 03-02-2010 07:40 AM

I was forced into getting a Facebook profile by a number of friends. The only time I even look at it is when a new freind request comes in. I never update it. After working on computers all day, I just don't have the desire to sit in front of one all night.

I joined about two months before our 30th class reunion and got reaquainted ahead of time, which made the time at the reunion much more fun.

vjengels 03-02-2010 07:47 AM

You know... I thought I'd drag myself into the Social Networking age and started a Facebook acct. I didn't put much energy into it, found a friend from grade school w/i the first week, she kept sending me these, ( I don't mean to offend anyone...) stupid surveys, and farm-y things.....decided it wasn't for me as soon as a co-worker posted for every one to see that she hoped I had a great time while I was out of town for my birthday in Yellowstone; even though I didn't have my address listed, it made me uncomfortable that everyone in the world ( that I didn't know..)knew what I was doing, and I didn't tell them.... I guess I'll have to scrap my dreams of being famous, if that little bit of info on me made me uncomfortable...

JoyVoltenburg 03-02-2010 07:53 AM

I hate those surveys and apps too. I usually hide them so I don't have to see them, but there's always some new one making the rounds. I get on occasionally to post some news to update my relatives and friends on the latest big events. I also don't use twitter. I've only got so many hours in the day and I'd rather spend my extra time sewing/quilting. This site is a much better forum in my opinion.

Use to, but got hacked so bad through my facebook account. Thank goodness, I had not put much personal info on my account. But scarred my family and friends to death. The problem was they did not have a phone number to call to get my account shut down, and could not get back into my facebook account to change the password or send email to facebook, everything was directed to the hackers. It was nerve racking getting things totally shut down. Finally found someones Facebook personal office phone, by continuous search online and left a message on their voicemail, that I was going to the media, It got shut down in minutes after that. They keep encouraging me to sign back up, but I am really leary. I would love to because so many of my friends and family post their photos there. I also am a computer geek and have every spyware, virus scan, didn't help. In fact one of the first people to get hit with this was a Microsoft Executive. He has written an article about it, but cannot find it. It is one of the online computer magazines.

Just be really careful, don't put a lot of personal info on their, like family member names, childrens names, etc. I was lucky in the fact all they had was my photo and my first initial and my last name.

Here is an article if you would like to read it. The article came out in May 2009 and I still got hacked in August. So facebook knew about it and had not taken any measures to correct it.

nativetexan 03-02-2010 08:17 AM

I got out of facebook mainly because the Farmville request drove me crazy. but i also had to chastise my DIL and get her to remove my oldest granddtr's school name and her age, etc.
way too much personal info in there!!!

Jamie 03-02-2010 08:20 AM

Not only do I use facebook, but I am completely addicted to it!

Beachbound 03-02-2010 08:21 AM

I enjoy Facebook....I am hooked on the games more than networking tho.

Deara 03-02-2010 08:34 AM

I am on Facebook. I get to keep up with family & friends. Love being able to see photos of new babies in our family and with our friends. Don't do the games, they are a waste of time. Would rather quilt instead.

Blessings to all,
Deara

rivka 03-02-2010 10:15 AM

I use it to keep in contact with my (very large) family. It's a great way to stay in touch with people who are spread out across the country.

canmitch1971 03-02-2010 10:20 AM

me too

Chasing Hawk 03-02-2010 10:20 AM

Not me, myspace or twitter either. I surf the web, wander about here on the forum. And browse magazines and books from the Goodwill to get my ideas.

carrieg 03-02-2010 02:11 PM

I just signed up and am still learning the ropes. I was at a baby shower last weekend and found out my niece in TN had posted her wedding photos. I decided it was the only way to keep in touch with the young people.

It is way more confusing that forums like this!

sweetsie 03-02-2010 02:42 PM

i do,but am like everyone else, this is more fun and more informational. i let a son or grandson play in farmville. sometimes my daughter takes care of stuff. wish i could get
off that farmville, but don't know how, i have kids, grands,
even stepkids, grands, etc.on there. i'd rather spend my time
elsewhere,like in my sewing room.

Jim's Gem 03-02-2010 03:05 PM

I'm on facebook. I don't say much but it is how I am keeping up with what is going on in my children's lives. My daughter is always posting pictures!!

IrishNY 03-02-2010 05:03 PM

I too am on it and really enjoy it. I have a huge family and I am able to keep in contact with cousins and siblings and even my kids on it. I love that you can leave quick notes like having a real conversation rather than having to write a lot. I think I have gotten to know some of my cousins better through FB than I used to because we share mundane day to day stuff that is what our lives really consist of.

Count me as a fan!

jetnica 03-02-2010 05:06 PM

I LOVE FACEBOOK!!!

I'm such a dork. =P

There's a link to all of my quilty stuff in my signature =)

Mamagus 03-02-2010 05:21 PM

I think the great thing about Facebook is that you can adapt it to be anything you want it to be. Privacy settings, hiding notifications, blocking annoying people, reading what I want to read and ignoring the rest... I can't imagine my life with out it.

My mom had 8 siblings... two step-sisters, one full sister, three half-sisters and two half-brothers. Their children are scattered hither and yon. And now, our facebook group for our family has brought us closer together and we're planning a family reunion in a couple of years time.

It takes time to learn the tricks of making it enjoyable but it can serve a purpose in anyone's life.

minnow895 03-02-2010 09:47 PM

if you post on facebook becarefull what you say it has caused a lot of people to lose jobs and there have been criminal arrest you might even see your page on the national news pleas be carefull the world is watching

Olivia's Grammy 03-03-2010 02:04 PM

I'm on FB bc I have a large out of state family. It's a way for me to keep up with them. Both of my DGS are on FB so I like to see what they are doing. I don't post alot, but I check it serval times a day. I also have a lot of out of state friends. Our church uses it to post upcoming events. I use privacy settings on my account so only "friends" can see my info.

sewcrazygirl 03-03-2010 02:14 PM

im there

Minda 03-05-2010 07:55 AM

How do you get hacked on Facebook?

Boston1954 03-05-2010 04:14 PM

Nope. My friends have my email address. That is fine for me.

QuiltingGrannie 03-05-2010 04:53 PM

I'm on facebook to be in touch with so many I'd lost touch with from early school years, and have made new friends. I used to be hooked on the games, but now just get on to see what the latest is for everyone. Can also chat on there which is nice. My "Newbie"/"Veteran" Mommy and I are both on so we can send pics and chat instead of PM's here.
I like having my photos of my hobbies, other life events and such on there for others to see.
You can set FB up the way you want and avoid all the junk.

I also have 4 email accounts! LOL oops forgot one. I have 5 email accounts!
