Just wondering if any of you have a favorite tote pattern. I recently finished a couple that had the insert that goes in the bottom. They turned out great but I'm not crazy about the "floor board" effect if you know what I mean.

I like the Whimsy bag from Lazy Girl. It's easy and I've never used an insert in mine. I do use fusible fleece rather than regular fleece for lining.

I never use the floor boards.

You don't need to put the bottom in if you don't like it. You could leave it out entirely, or use a stiff interfacing like timtex, peltex or stiffy from Long Creek Mills. these will give support, but won't be stiff.

here are my favorite sites for free bag patterns. Maybe you can find something here

If you want a really nice BIG tote, the Schlep Bag can't be beat!! It's very large capacity...you can put a whole quilt in it to take along, or it's wonderful for traveling...you can stuff huge amounts of stuff in it!! And it's super easy to make.

I agree! I have made many schlep bags and all my girls love them. The hold a ton and are so comfortable on your shoulder. We use them for books, gym bags, shopping, etc.

I don't have the name of the pattern, but I'm the lone dumbass that signed up for Annie's Attic fat quarter club and the first shipment included a "free" pattern for a tote. So far, I've made 5...When I get home, I'll look up the name and update...
