Got a Kindle for an early b'day gift. I love it!! I've downloaded some free books from Amazon, but I am curious to know what are some of your favorite, safe websites to download books from?

Possibly you can only get Kindle books from Amazon ... I have a Nook and I can only get e-books from Barnes and Noble. :(

I have a Kindle, too, and looked at other websites but mostly use Amazon! It seems like almost every weekend, they have different books for free, and I've been downloading a lot of those. I've read many authors I've never heard of and probably wouldn't have read if I'd had to pay for the book, so this has expanded my horizons, so to speak.

The other sites I've found with free books are mostly the classics, and since I graduated with a degree in English, I'm pretty much tapped out on classics. Now I read for fun.

A Kindle is an electronic reader - you read the book on a screen instead of buying paper books.

I use mostly Amazon but there is a site called Gutenberg (or Guttenberg not sure of spelling). Just google 'free kindle books" and you'll get more sites.
Renee I'm ordering all the classics since I haven't read them since high school-enjoying them now since they aren't MUST reads.
Enjoy your new bd present-I love mine.

I have a Nook, and you can get a lot of free classic books from Project Gutenberg (www.gutenberg.org). I think you'll need to look for ones with the Kindle format.

Minnie - you can get ebooks from other sources as long as it's in the ebook format. Sony has an ebook site too and you can also rent library ebooks :)

Thanks Jen -- I didn't know that. :)

Searching for Kindle I found this post. Thought I would put out there that if you put "Public Domain" into the search engine on your Kindle it will bring up all kinds of goodies for free. =)
