My DH left early this morning for the airport, he's headed to Lancaster PA (corporate office/ main manufacturing plant are there) and won't be home until midnight Friday. I miss him already, made it harder because he was on vacation all of last week! He helped me decorate for Christmas before he left so at least the house is cheery, and I have my furry kids to keep me company, but I'll still miss him. :-(
On the up side: five days of eating what I want, watching what I want on tv (without the constant channel surfing) and generally doing what I want, when I want. Not to mention more quilting (and Quilting Board) time. Just trying to stay positive! :D

Not sure what the down side is here (rofl). Enjoy this time and explore who you are

grammyp 11-29-2010 06:19 AM

Awesome! No one channel surfing, what a concept. I still know what you mean about something being missing. Stay busy and it will pass quickly.

oldswimmer 11-29-2010 06:20 AM

I agree....make it a great week of "ME" time. I would love a little time to be able to sew, sew, sew! And not have to cook meals...or better yet, go get some of take out food that I like.
Enjoy your week, it will be all the sweeter when he gets back.

CarrieAnne 11-29-2010 06:23 AM

Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!! Just enjoy your week, it will go by SO fast!

I always enjoy when my DH has to go on trips. He leaves Jan 5th and won't be home until the end of Jan. It is show time for him first NC, Las Vegas then MS. He is a sales rep. I love it. I usually get creative when I am here alone and can think. Enjoy it.

Wish mine was gone for a week[ or two]

What is it with guys and channel surfing, anyway? I can even see the gender difference among my 3 teens (2 boys, 1 girl).

ptquilts 11-29-2010 07:04 AM

you won't be lonely when you have all of us!!

Jeanniejo 11-29-2010 07:10 AM

I would kill for 5 days home alone !!!! My in-laws have lived with us for over 10 years now. We moved 10 years ago and bought a new home and brought the in-laws with us. I have never lived alone in my own home !!!!! They are realy fine , I just really miss my privacy.

I guess I'm the only one that Totally understands..... My DH and I can spend 24-7 together and we love it.!!!!!!
Start thinking about a little picnic under the tree when he returns.................. hummmmmmm go and get some beautiful ribbon, wrap yourself up and get the bubbly...............You get the picture.....hehehe
I know I'm probably making some people uncomfortable but when people meet us, they think we are newlyweds!!! We are going on 29yrs. With my sickness, well it has even brought us closer...........

dglvr 11-29-2010 08:51 AM

With everything you listed to do the time will fly. I think you'll have fun.

My DH used to travel constantly for his job-gone 4-6 wks at a time. Took a while, but I got used to it. 2 yrs ago he lost his job and now works from home. He's here 24/7. I'd really like it if he had to go on a trip and then I would see if I'd miss him (just kidding). I do miss that alone time-sewing, eating when & what I want, and yes-channel surfing to what I want.
Enjoy yourself!!

IrishNY 11-29-2010 04:03 PM

You should have gone with him. Great and cheap fabric shopping around Lancaster!

redvette54 11-29-2010 04:33 PM

Enjoy your time, he'll be home before you know it. I would love to have 5 days without having to cook, for some reason cooking has become a big chore for me.

almostfree 11-29-2010 04:36 PM

I miss my DH when he's gone, too, but know what you mean about being able to do what you want when you want. One night when he was gone, I sat down at 11 and sewed on a binding until 12:30. Don't know what possessed me, but it felt good to get it on.

Gramof6 11-29-2010 11:44 PM

I get a lot of time alone to do what I want, if I want, with my DH's work & the travel it entails. I love it! Our together time is more special that way.

Joan Gaddis 11-30-2010 01:05 PM

i am in the same position mine will be back fri. had to go south ga. to work at their plant just to get to work otherwise laid off

pookie ookie 11-30-2010 01:37 PM

Generally, exercise is a good pick me up. Exercise every day and then have your "me" time. Try to enjoy your freedom. If that doesn't work, try guilting yourself (not quilting yourself although that might be fun). Think of all the military families who will be separated from each other this holiday season. Be sure to let him know how much you miss him. It's nice to be missed.

BRenea 11-30-2010 06:44 PM

I feel better now that I know he got there safely...I always worry when he travels. In years past it was not uncommon for him to be gone one week out of every month, but with the economy he has been working at the local plant. Guess I just got out of the routine of business travel. I like my alone time, but I miss him, too.
I have been with him to Lancaster many times, and I would have loved to be able to go with him this time, but I have an appointment with my oncologist this week...time to start another round of immune treatments. Plus, someone's got to take care of the farm.

RedGarnet222 11-30-2010 06:58 PM

You could buy his christmas now and he isn't around to snoop! Have some fun sewing to all hours of the night and eat potato chips in the bed.... LOL!

Roberta 12-01-2010 07:40 AM

Just do what I do when my DH is on assignment with FEMA and out of the state for months, consider it your vacation time.
