Fire ants are dangerous and a pest for sure.They knock out our good ant colonies that we need,and get into everything.We can't even go to our sheds without being attacked.4 times last yr my hubby who is 84 had them up in his pants and all over his back and front belly,arms,neck,head,etc, inside his shirt biting and attacking him.I have to make him strip and get into the shower after getting as many off as fast as possible,while he's stripping (outside,but out of sight).And our poor pets.I have to watch them too and spray the porch 2 X a month.I use the ANT and SPIDER spray from Walmart at $1.99 a can.I move their dishes for 2 days when I spray,then put them back after 2 days.I destroy every colony after pounding and vibrating the ground to bring them UP.I spray them heavily,wait while it does it's job,a couple hrs or more or less.Then I take a hose with a jet stream and demolish the compound.That takes care of them. Till the new colony crops up.But this year I want to stop them from entering the property.Their just now starting to come.I'm sure a lot of us could benefit from someone who can help us out.Their all over the southwest and half way up north.Any ideas?Thanks

Her daughter started beating her own clothes and was more modest.

I use to pour clorex on them... lived in Calif. and the children's play area was loaded so I poured clorex where ever they were, finally went away.. Don't really think clorex can hurt any one. In WW11 they use to use it to help clot cuts and such.... heard that from a old WW11 army nurse. So if it's OK on body must be ok on ground???? :)

I did invest in a snake bite kit with different sizes of nozzles that you put on the bite and it will suck most of the poisen out from everything from fire ants,spiders,bees,snakes,etc.And then it's not supose to be as bad.But when thousands are everywhere,biting,well,that wouldn't be feezable I don't think.So maybe someone could tell us what to put on the bites.I did learn yrs ago,when we were in Kansas,I got a spider bite of some kind.It was nasty and oozy,and burned like fire for over a week.I tried everything medication wise.Finaly,I went to the drug store,and the druggest said,that it looked like a yeast infection and to get the antifungle tube of 'jock itch' for men.It was $6.00 a tube,but hey,anything at that point.It imediatly cooled down and began to heal.So,he was right.So,if you ever get a bite and it don't heal,try it.It healed up right away then too.It worked.

I think I just read that wd-40 gets rid of them or stops their sting. I was on this site. I have watched the reality show about the bug terminators in the south they use a non lethal solution made out of flower pistons. I just cannot remember what the name of it is called. It dehydrates the ants.

Wow,that would be good too.I need to do the parimeter of my yard,and my neighbors yards.We would have to all do it too.Of which they would.They hate them too.We live in a rural area,and are the only ones over here.And surounded by field crops.

My grandmother and aunts used this for regular ants so maybe it'll work on the fire ants too.
She mixed dry yeast powder with water then mixed in some maple syrup and poured it into jar lids and set them around the outside of the house.
The water and syrup attracts them and they also eat the yeast which kills them. Not an instant solution but safe.

Contact your local Agricultural Extension agency for a list of the approved chemicals to use on those buggers. There is a product out there that stops them from reproducing and a product that gives you an instant kill. These have varying degrees of toxicity, so just be sure to real the labels well and remember safety first.

You really can win this battle!

We had them a few yrs back here in NY...OH MY were they horrible...I went to Walmart/ or Hm Depot and buy the Ortho Powders and granula's and put it down on the grass and area they tracked...Never saw them again.
