A first for me...

I have been "scared" to try a zipper on anything, even though I bought one months ago in hopes I would overcome the fear. Today was that day!

I made a pillow with a zipper on the back!

This is the front:

The back with the zipper covered:

It was my first and I am so proud of it. I did use some old fat quarters in case I messed up and I didn't want to waste something new. Oh and the insert is one I made filled with buckwheat hulls.

Looks great. Putting under it under that band is a great idea.

I saw the band idea on a blog so I thought I would try it.

It's amazing how we put off trying something new and then, realize there was little to be worried about! I think we are a lot smarter then we give outselves credit for! Great job!!

Now you can make that 4 yr old daughter of yours a dress with a zipper down the back!

You did a great job. I really like your pillow.

Latrinka 07-19-2012 07:04 PM

I am sure that is next. lol

You can only get better and slicker at doing it - practice, practice (without fear). Good work!

tngal22 07-20-2012 06:03 AM

Thanks jitkaau! I am sure I will stock up on zippers now. lol

Wow that is really cute. I have a 6 yo girl so I know the need for easy removal. Was it hard to do? I've only put one zipper in a purse I made like five years ago and it took many attempts before it turned out right. Haven't tried one since. LOL

Congrats on conquering your fear of zippers! The pillow is awesome. I haven't conquered that fear myself so I avoid anything with zippers, LOL.

No, it was really simple. I had to remove one seam but that was my fault for not reading correctly. lol

Beautiful pillow, great job on the zipper! Now you are not a novice!! Do it again!!

nygal 07-21-2012 06:11 AM

Good job!! Sometimes the thought of doing something is really worse than the actual doing it. I've felt the same way at times.

I love the cushion it looks very beautiful and I'm with you I hate working with zippers too, I always go with sewn pockets vs putting a zippered one in.

caspharm 07-21-2012 01:32 PM

Great job.

susiestone 07-21-2012 05:50 PM

Good job wish I could muster up the courage to try it.
