My home in Florida opened inwards. Cannot even recall any that opened the other way. I know my daughter's open inward.
|
Most of my doors have opened in. The only exception was in my mobile home which opened out. Hated it that way, but didn't take up wall space inside.
|
I never cease to be amazed at the things I learn from fellow board members.

I have two doors in my Florida house, one opens OUT and one opens IN. Both doors in my old NY house opened IN. Go figure.
|
Now that I think about this, it makes perfect sense. I lived on the west coast when I lived in Florida. On the gulf side of my house, all the doors opened out. On the street side, they opened in. Never gave it a second thought at the time. But, it makes a lot of sense.

I moved down to FL in 2001 and we had our house built and the doors opened in and the new house we built in 2004 they open out. Which, I hate because you can't put up a storm (screen) door. It does have to due with hurricanes. But, then again the new house has hurricane shutters. ???

We saw a really neat thing when we were in FL this spring. One of the condos had a screen door that fastened to the wall all rolled up and when you wanted to use it, you pulled it to the other side and connected it somehow.

http://www.phantomscreens.com/produc...oduct-details/ I love these. As I wrote on the other thread, there are less expensive versions also available. And it's an easy DIY install. |
I am going to reverse the door between my garage and house so that it opens out. The hinges will be on the outside but you take out a screw and put a pin in one side of each of the hinges and a hole on the opposite side for the pin to fit in when the door is closed. It eliminates the ability to remove the hinges and remove the door which will make me happier since I won't be seeing the door pushed into my washer and dryer.

Mobile Home doors open out due to fire danger. Are there a lot of MH's in FL? Haven't been there since 1965. I am sure things have changed a bit since then. lol !

I'm pretty sure any new construction of houses/apts/condos built after that date also had to/have to come with hurricane shutters for every window/sliding door, or impact (shatter proof) glass. |
I bet it's so the aligators can't push the doors in!!!!

I know that building codes in FL have had a lot on changes to them in the last couple of years. Homes on the water - or in flood zones - have to be on stilts. New construction has to be built on stilts - living area is on the 2nd floor - or X amount (not sure what the # is) above sea level. This also applies to remodelling if it is over - a certain % - again not sure the %. I am not sure about front doors opening outward - we built our house over 20 yrs ago. Our front doors (double doors) open in - Door into garage opens out. The side door going out from the our 3 car garage opens out, since the door can't open in because it would hit our cars. We have 3 sets of glass doors that go to out to the screened pool area in the back yard they are triple sliding glass doors that pocket into each other - so they don't open in or open out - they open side ways I will have to ask my son about the doors & codes in FL- he is a flood adjuster for FEMA. He is away at the moment in Mississippi. River/water has finally gone down enough to be able to do adjustments, although they had to be taken by boat to several of the properties- He had gone out 2 weeks ago & was only able to 3 or 4 claims - the balance were still under water. I feel so sorry for the people that have been affected by these floods - they are in my prays every night. God bless them |
My front door open IN and I live in FL.

We live in soCal but when we built our home I had 5 out ward swinging double french doors put in. They swing open onto the porches. When the weather is warm I like to open them to the outside instead of them having to come in as I have stuff inside standing in the way. We had to meet certain regulations to have them swing out wards as they normally swing in here. I love it. Thank fully no gators here. Brrrrr
