Fleece Throw - A Confidence-Builder :)

2 Attachment(s)
I hope I don't get kicked out of here for posting a non-quilt item...I am so new to doing ANYTHING crafty, I am terribly proud of this fleece blanket I did edging on for my boss...And I desperately want to share it :) It is not the usual way of doing these blankets. I discovered how to do it at the blog of a woman who lives in Nebraska - http://nebraskaviews.blogspot.com/20...et-edging.html

It's still a little bunched-up in places, but as you can see it is a nifty way of doing these.

Now I have to get back at my quilted pillow covers. My machine is due back shortly from being serviced because the tension was having issues. The pillow covers are my first sewing or quilting attempt, so wish me luck.

Thanks,

It looks great! Warm and comfy.

PaperPrincess 12-11-2012 02:35 PM

Looks warm and cuddly! You did a great job for your first project. Too bad about the Lions, however, there's always next year (which is what I said last year)... ;-)

scisyb220 12-11-2012 03:07 PM

OMG! You might just have made it possible for me to get some of these made in time for Christmas and they look so finished off!!! This may not be a quilt, but it sure is a great fast way to get a warm little throw put together!! Hope you have a Merry Christmas and oh well, next year is another season for the Lions!

dunngriffith 12-11-2012 03:24 PM

Great job. So nice!

sewmary 12-11-2012 03:41 PM

Thanks for sharing this technique. it look so much easier than the tying

topstitch 12-11-2012 03:45 PM

very cozy looking and warm I bet. I love the edges

CajunQuilter2 12-11-2012 03:47 PM

I love that way to edge them. I have not done it that way but want to try it one day. Looks great

redquilter 12-11-2012 03:59 PM

Very nice. Like the edging. Gives it a designer look.

quilts4charity 12-11-2012 04:29 PM

Wow, looks great and thanks for sharing how to do it!...we were all beginners once, good luck on your quilting...you'll be an old pro before too long!!!!

schnurke 12-11-2012 05:23 PM

Thanks, everyone! Glad to provide the idea and resource, too!

kuntryquilter 12-12-2012 04:22 AM

I like your way better.

schnurke 12-12-2012 04:31 AM

I also meant to say Merry Christmas right back to you.

AZ Jane 12-12-2012 06:56 AM

Thanks for the web site. I have made many ties fleece blankets or deployed service members but I LOVE this method!!!!!

Grannyh67 12-12-2012 08:29 AM

Thank ypou so much, I love the fleece throws and this is great. I hated the ones with the knots, lol......mine always come apart. I thik this will be great. No problem with the left hand instructions, I can use either one but it don't matter much on this. Have a Merry Christmas.

Grandma Mary 12-12-2012 09:11 AM

Looks great. Isn't it fun to create something with your own two hands? By the way, I was born and raised in Kalamazoo. I'm now in Grand Rapids. Glad to meet you! (Don't give up on those Lions. Some year will be their year to win! ;-)

Caswews 12-12-2012 09:16 AM

Great job !!! Pick up some library books or DVD's as that is an easy way to learn. Go to garage sales; see who is getting rid of quilting books, material etc..Learn from blogs, each other and you will be so amazed at yourself and your ability. Go forth and Quilt grasshopper and you will learn ..... :- )

solstice3 12-12-2012 02:52 PM

it is whatever makes you happy. A lot of us have varied interests. you did a nice job

jeannedog 12-12-2012 06:11 PM

I feel like I have been left behind===how do you do this finished edge? I like it so much better.

gramacheri 12-13-2012 05:54 AM

Very nice and so comfy and cozy looking! We all have to start somewhere, so do what is "calling" to you and move on from there. I believe that you will do well with the quilted pillow covers. Remember that a finished piece is better than a perfect piece. (Good thing too because I have not been able to get the "Perfect" thing down!)

schnurke 12-13-2012 07:39 AM

Yay for the left-handers here! :) And nice to meet you, "Grandma Mary." And, thanks to everyone for all of the nice things you keep saying (and for the encouragment). "Jeannedog," see my post for the link to the instructions on this.

Quilting Board Rocks

I also want to say that you all make this Quilting Board awesome! So much support and kind words. Very helpful and welcome to me. And I keep forgetting to mention how neat it is to see other Michiganders on here. Happy Holidays, again.

I have made dozens of fleece blankets. I just sew two pieces together and fringe. I don't tie or anything and people just love them. I make about 20 every year for our angel tree children at christmas. folks donate all kinds of fleece and I just match up the best I can. Saves time when you do not have to tie the fringe part or do fancy edges.
