Flour sack tea towels....
Has anyone found a good source for these. I want to machine embroider on them so they need to have a fair amount of body...would also like the To be absorbent. It seems like most of them are either too thin or too stiff.

I bought some a month ago from the Missouri Star Quilt Co. that were nice. Also, Joann's has package of the flour sack style - two different sizes. I do suggest you inspected them either in store or in your car because I had one that had a hole in it. It was just a fabric defect, and it only happened once but it did happen so now I check them.

I think I saw some in the Nancy's Notions catalog along with a lot of embroidery patterns.

I bought some from Target awhile ago. haven't used them
yet, they seem a bit thin, so might use them for redwork. saw at a quilt show that a lday put a light bit of applique and about 2 strands of hand emb floss on them. I use the towels I get ar target the 2/$3 terry hand towels for my kitchen and do machine emb on them. they hold up nicely for the kithen. Good luck |
I bought Aunt Martha's striped tea towels 3 to a package from Walmart for less then $8. They are really nice to embroider. They aren't thin, more like a soft ticking.

Sometimes an antique mall will have some for a reasonable price .... or I've seen them occasionally at small agency thrift stores or estate sales. The original ones are the best ......

I get some at Mills Fleet Farm and my local sewing machine shop but I do only hand embroidery
|
I get mine @ Hobby Lobby and use my 40 % off coupon that I print out @ home.

Maeleen, from the foothills of the Boston Mts in Arkansas |
I found some at williams-sonoma that would be good for embroidery.
They are a bit more robust than my favorites that I get from Walmart. For dishes, I prefer the thinner ones as they dry quickly. |
I saw some at Hobby Lobby...they looked nice to me! They are by the Aunt Martha display near the embroidery floss.

I got some thin ones from Target. How thick are the ones you all are using.
I'm afraid mine might be to thin. I was going to do hand emb and hand applique. Opinions please. |
I've been using ones from Wal-Mart for years. They are light weight, but I like that, easier to stuff them in glasses to dry them. I've only decorated that kind of towel once and I appliques shapes of them.
