I finally got my first check from the EBook right? I am sharing part of it with Dorothy as she does part of the work.
Went to my bank yesterday to deposit it and my bank wouldn't let me deposit it!!! They thought it was a scam!!
The girl tried to call the company that issued and couldn't get an answer. So I asked if I went home and found a phone number and got ahold of someone there that could verify the check would that work. She said yes. So brought the check home with me( we are 20 min. from town) and I called and got a phone number from the head of the accounting dept. I called my bank and they wouldn't even call. They said they would hold the check for 20 days. I had already waited 2 weeks to get the check I dd not want to wait another 3 weeks!!!

So I thought I would try having my mom put it in her account. This was 3pm by this time. Well her bank closes their lobby at 4 pm. So we scurried around and got over there.
We went to put it in her account which they were willing to do!!! But the young lady suggested I could start my own account in the future! Which I did not think of because I already have an account at my bank!
So I had to open a new account in a differant bank just to be able to use my own money!!!! Thank goodness it worked out!!! Dorothy had already set up an appointment to get new tires on her car which she needs badly and if we had to wait another 20 days she would have been driving on extremely bad tires!!! Not to mention I needed to pay some bills!!
Thank the Lord it all worked out!!!! Whew!

The lady at mom's bank said she didn't understand why my bank wouldn't accept it because they had verification the account existed but because it was an out of state check and they saw an internet address at the top of the check they decided it was probably a scam! Which it is not! I talked to the accountant myself which I called by getting a telephone # thru the yellow pages. And the lady at Mom's bank said just verifying that the acount existed proved it wasn't a scam!
The lady at mom's bank just took my word for it she didn't try to verify anything! Why couldn't the bank we have banked at for years do the same thing???? Not happy with my bank right now!!!

Thankfully in the near future I will be allowed to direct deposit checks from them. Then this won't be an issue!

Very FRUSTRATING when you have money and you can't use it!!!

Time to find a new bank! Shame on them, I can see being careful, but after it had been shown to be good, then that was just stupid!

I received a check from my mortgage company recently, for a return on my escrow account. It was from CitiMortgage a well know mortgage company and part of CitiBank. Anyway, my credit union held that check for 15 days, because it was out of state.

Banks are panicking . Not good for us consumers , but what can we do ? The whole financial situation has everyone worried and this is the way the banks are reacting  Sorry you had such a time

Personally speaking, I would go to the President or manager at the bank you've used for years, tell them the problem you had and tell them that you'll be closing your account. My two cents worth. Glad you got the problem resolved.

I thought about this yesterday. We bank at a Credit Union and their rules are slightly differant than reg. banks. The funny thing is the manager is my husband's cousin. I didn't see her there yesterday so I figured if i didn't get it fixed yesterday I would make a point of calling Mary and talking to her. Oh well at least I got the problem solved just not the way I expected!

I don't want to close my account there because I have my paycheck from the government sent there. The bank that does the accounting for this has mishandled my paycheck more times than it has been right! But because the gov has a contract with them I don't have any recourse but to constantly complain and demand they fix it! Usually they are nice and it gets fixed but I have been dealing with this for a year and a half. If I changed the routing it would throw them even more into problems!!!!
I was supposed to have my check direct deposited last Fri and it wasn't there. I had to call and Angel put it in my account yesterday. The one I got two weeks ago was only half of what I was supposed to get. She fixed it two days later!! This is an ongoing irritation!!

So when this happened with the EBook check I was fed up!!

My boyfriends bank held his income tax return check for 30 days!! They said that they had to to make sure the check would clear. Ummmm it was a check from HR Block....I think they are good for it!!

mytwopals 05-19-2009 08:47 AM

If the check was from HR Block, it was an advance loan on your boyfriend's income tax return. Not the actual tax return check. Those come from the IRS and will gladly be cashed by any bank. Although, 30 days does seem a bit long. I bet it posted to his account sooner than that. They probably just said 30 days to be safe.

Rhonda 05-19-2009 08:59 AM

I used to use H &R Block and I got the same check. They offer this service so you don't have to wait for the real check. I didn't have any problem using it. This was last year.
Maybe this is another instance where they are nervous because of the problems with the banks. Don't know but doesn't seem right!!

Me too!!

I use a credit union also. Their rules are a tad different, and out of state checks are usually held for 5 days. I'm sew sorry you had this difficulty, but glad you have it resolved, at least for now!
Great news on the book!

I had a check held FROM THE BANK THAT ISSUED THE CHECK - now that's something to worry about.

Time for a new bank?

Mousie 05-19-2009 07:13 PM

when i first started using this board, i had never been on a site like this, so took me a while to find my way around. Was so pleased to find, that not only was there gobs and gobs of quilting info, pics, etc. but a place to just let your hair down and say whatever is on your mind...and get a lot of support.
You live your whole life, being an honest, decent person, and then some little thing, and somebody is questioning your very character, and not doing their job right. Quilting sure makes up for a lot in this world.

Sorry you had so many problems Rhonda. Is it time to find a new bank?

Thanks Little Hud. I have to keep my current one because I have some direct deposits I don't want to mess up. One in particular gets messed up enough as it is without any help from me!!

But I did have to open a new account in my mom's bank just to be able to deposit this check!! Crazy!! So I do have two accounts now in two differant banks!!

Hope it doesn't get confusing!

BellaBoo 05-20-2009 08:15 AM

I rarely deposit a check. I ask that it be cashed then I deposit the money. I learned this from a CFO who never deposited checks in his personal account. The money is instantly available to you as soon as it's deposited. The bank will have the amount of the check on their books as income long before it's available to your account. They are making money while you are left in limbo.

littlehud 05-20-2009 08:35 AM

I know there have always been schemes and frauds, but it seem in these hard economic time they have really increased. Sadly enough businesses have had to add so many rules and regulations just to protect themselves from these people that it is making it hard for honest people like you. We pay the price for someone else's dishonesty. So sad.
