This Gal Needs a Quilt!

Something a little different - I just like to sew! I found this gal in an antique store, it's hard to find tall dolls like this, much less ones in this good shape. She's been hanging out in my closet in her underwear for some time now so decided she needed an outfit. I see a lot of doll quilts on the board, I've not ventured into something on a smaller scale so think it's about time!

She looks much better now rather than being in her underwear.

Wonderful outfit!! I had a doll like that when I was a little girl!

Tweety2911 03-17-2012 08:44 PM

I love her outfit!

BETTY62 03-17-2012 09:02 PM

She is beautiful. How tall is she?

Nanamoms 03-17-2012 09:04 PM

Oh my, she is the spitting image of my "bride doll" that was the last doll I got when I was a little girl. Luckily, she's still dressed in her bridal gown with veil and not in her "underwear"!! HeHe! Maybe she was a "runaway bridge"!! Mine is very old (well so am I)...I think I got her for my 12th birthday which would make the doll 50 years old in July. I wish I could find out her maker but there is no name except "Horseman" on the box!

Maybe I need to update her look like that she's in the 50 Something range. Whatcha think?

She looks good. Barn raising with scraps might be a good doll quilt.

Chantel41 03-17-2012 09:35 PM

If you look up Horseman dolls (I have several) you may be able to find out more info. She looks just like the one I have made by Horseman, dated 1933

She is lovely, reminds me of Audrey Hepburn fro Breakfast at Tiffaneys..

She is 23" tall. It's hard to find anything for her. I did find shoes for her on Ebay (they were outrageously expensive but at least she has shoes now) and I found some tights for her too. She was nude when I bought her, I made the underwear too.

I also have a "bride doll". It was the last doll I ever got, I asked for her for Christmas when I was 11, so that makes her 49 years old! My mother and I both made clothes for her and I rarely played with her so she looks brand new, and she is still in the original box (which is in pretty rough shape but still hanging in there). I still have the original clothes too but they are in really rocky shape. The accessories have fared better.

How cute she is!

luce321 03-18-2012 03:54 AM

Her outfit is precious.

Barbm 03-18-2012 04:09 AM

I thought the same thing- I had a doll like her! She's beautiful. Thanks for giving her a great home. And nice outfit- she needs a dark bra to make her look like fashion models hehe. j/k

QuiltE 03-18-2012 06:21 AM

I'm sure you'll have fun making a quilt for her ... and many wardrobe items to follow!

Though to me .... her lacy blouse, floral pants and the way she's holding her arms, says to me that she's missing a summer wrap/shawl draping over those arms! :) perhaps a fine hand knit?

Oh my gosh, how cool is that!

luvstoquilt 03-18-2012 09:33 AM

She is really pretty. I used to make so many doll clothes. I know you are having fun playing with her!

JenniePenny 03-18-2012 09:37 AM

She looks so fashionable and chic. Love her outfit.

Sandra in Minnesota 03-18-2012 11:44 AM

Sounds like you have a very collectable doll. Maybe she is worth big $$$$.

shelburn 03-18-2012 12:23 PM

Love your doll. I have one that looks very much like her. Picked her up at a yard sale about 20 years ago. she had a huge circular skirt and a large picture hat all in yellow. She was a bed doll. don't know if you remember them. They were set in the middle of the bed with the shirt flared around them. I will have to get mine out and make a new outfit for her. Will have to research "bed doll" and see what I come up with.

sew4fun 03-19-2012 05:21 AM

She is beautiful. I have almost all of my dolls from my childhood but don't have one that height. I have been wanting to make some doll clothes and this sparks that idea even more. May have to go and buy a pattern today.:-)

Diannia 03-19-2012 07:46 AM

Oh my! I had that bride doll too! Unfortunately my dolls were packed in the garage and got wet so I no longer have her! Thanks for the memory though...

She's lovely! You've dressed her nicely. Good luck on the quilt.

DonnaQuilts 03-19-2012 12:12 PM

Very good job. Those doll clothes are hard to make. I appreciate a good job like you did. Experience says they are harder to make than adult clothing. You are talented in deed.

DonnaQuilts 03-19-2012 12:16 PM

I had one too, but it was a 1954 model, with a white satin bride's dress and a wig on a buckram base. She is still around at my daughter's. She had the same face. I did buy her a new wig some years ago from a dollmaker, long since gone to her reward. I have a picture taken with her when I was in the third grade.

Isn't it fun to sew for *fashion shaped* dolls larger than barbie ? they should make more of them

Chasing Hawk 02-20-2013 04:59 PM

Well in So. California is really doesn't get that cold. So she probably wasn't complaining to much about hanging out in her
undergarments. With her new stylish outfit she can sit outside and not worry about any indecent exposure tickets.

She is a lovely doll. I think I had one as a little girl.
