Garment pattern sewing books?
 

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best garment pattern sewing books? Right now I am plus sized and hope it will change soon but will be plus size for a while. Thanks in advance!

I would also check out Sandra Betzina. Used to watch her shows on HGTV and learned as much about garment sewing from her as I did from Alex Anderson about quilting.

Check out Patternreview.com. This is a great place to learn about what is the best of everything in sewing garments.

I've always liked Simplicity, McCalls and Butterick pattern books and they have plus size sections.

This has nothing to do with your question, but it brought back some fond memories! My mother made all my clothes and I can remember being bored to death waiting for her to buy her fabric, thread and pattern for the next thing she was going to sew. The store knew her so well that they saved the old pattern books for me and I got to take them home and cut out "paper dolls". Wish I had those old books now!

i think there are - mainly - two types of plus sized figures.

small framed women with lots of padding - i am one of them - my arms have not gotten longer nor have my shoulders gotten wider as my torso has added inches!

and

people with larger frames - the "big-boned" people

I used to do a lot of garment construction. I made almost all of my own clothing for years. To the point that my friend once asked me "Do you buy clothes?" :D (She was going to tell me about a sale but wasn't sure I ever bought anything). I've use all the major clothing patterns and a lot of the designer or boutique ones. It's really matter of what you prefer to wear and how much experience you have.

Some Vogue designer type patterns can be somewhat difficult (lots of details which make the garments awesome but aren't always easy to accomplish). I used to buy a lot of Butterick patterns because they seemed to have a lot of styles I liked. When I was making suits to wear to work, most of my patterns came from Vogue just because I liked their styles. I think you mostly have to go look at the books and find the company that suits your style best. I don't know of a short cut way to do that.

McCalls pattern company has beautiful plus size easy patterns. I am smaller than I was, but still have the family tuckus to cover, so I buy them in the largest size so I have plenty of pattern paper to make adjustments to fit.
