You all are too funny! I live in 4 acres of woods and I think that is the only thing I don't like about the woods!

I used to get bit all the time from those little pests. Since I've started taking a B complex vitamin, they don't bother me anymore... Must not like the taste of me anymore. :-P

They are such pests and I don't think they are good for anything.

wouldn't it be annoying if someone researched them and told us they have a purpose other than cause us discomfort ???

We have a screened gazebo on our back deck. We are putting in a hot tub next month and our first thoughts when we looked for a location for it was, Will a screened gazebo fit over it there?

Black flies arrive first and they don't itch when they bite, but afterwards the bites are BAD; then comes the mosquitoes and they are HUGE and voracious. Then in August we get deer flies (We call them stouts) that are big and buzz around you and really hurt when they decide to bite and during hot weather we can get sandflies (nosseums) and they are tiny, tiny hence the NO SEE 'EMS name and sting like crazy and raise crazy huge welts.

We have a Skeeter Vac, screened gazebo, OFF repellants and since none of it is full-proof, we stock up on After-Bite... an ammonia based liquid that takes the sting or itch away immediately!

Yup, we're a bit spouth of you but get the same thing! We also get what we call black flies which are really gnats. The only thing worse are the noseeums! I hate those things; don't even think they're food for something else like bats!
