I dislike (no HATE spiders) but even I wouldn't go this far. I'll just keep yelling for SO to come kill it.

Attempt at killing spider burns house

A man who used a can of spray paint and a lighter as a makeshift blowtorch to kill a spider in his laundry room started a blaze that caused $60,000 worth of damage , Seattle fire officials said Wednesday.

The man and his mother got out of the house, and no injuries were reported in the fire that broke out in the West Seattle home Tuesday night, said Kyle Moore, a spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department.

Well, he did get rid of the spider! Poor thing!

yes, spiders are the least of his worries now!

They make a bug catcher that is like a pouf on a stick. You put the pouf up on the bug, then there is a thing that slides down over the pouf, trapping the bug, then you take the whole thing outside, move the slide up and release the bug. I laughed so hard when I first saw this. Obviously invented by someone who HATES bugs but is tender hearted.

Haha, I laughed when I read this. I'm a bit tender hearted for some bugs like lady bugs, crickets, june bugs, etc. I'll pick them up and take them outside. Spiders on the other hand...THEY GONNA DIE! haha

At least my dh only does that trick outside!

Anyone remember the movie "Annie Hall"? Now that was a spider!

I am among the folks that dislike/hate spiders. We have large brown garden spiders up here and they bite! I am allergic to them so I kill them when I see them but I don't think I'd use a blow torch! What was this guy thinking??? Glad no one was hurt.

I use Home Defense and spray all around the outside of the house and all around the inside of the basement. If they come in they curl up immediately and all I have to do is sweep them up. I heard this story and cracked up. I have been known to put a mason jar over an ugly one and waiting on DH to get home to kill or release, his choice.

Yikes, I guess he had a serious hate or fear of spiders. My goodness. Thank the lord, the humans made it out okay. The things scare the heck out of me. Spiders, snakes and any other creepy crawlies can stay outside! I do not fancy them myself either. :) But, NOT enough to burn down my house. (Or, at least I hope not.)

We do the same in our house. Spray Home Defense outside along the foundation and inside along the baseboards. Usually, we find them curled up and dead on the floor. (corners)

Love spider stories! My younger brother has a speech impediment. When he was little, it was really bad. One night he woke up screaming "pire, pire, pire" and ran downstairs and outside ....Dad responded quickly, got everyone else out of the house, and called the fire department. We were only a few blocks from the station, and they were there quickly. The firemen asked if everyone was out, and where the fire was....Dad asked him about the pire, and he said it was in his room. Firemen entered, came back out wondering????....no fire???? Turned out he saw SPIDERS in his room and was afraid! Needless to say...dad was not happy!! We still reminisce and crack up about this all the time!!!

Really-what an idiot. It's just a spider. Its a good thing that Spider didn't have a big gun.

If I see them outside they get to live but if they are in my house they die. lol

I kind of hate to wash spiders down the drain, but it's them or me.

I saw an article once where someone shot a spider and missed but hit the neighbor in the next apartment. Cheap Aquanet hairspray stops just about any bug in it's tracks. Costs about $1.00 to $1.50 a can. Wil stop flying insects in mid air and will seal wasp nests shut.

There are some spider's that are very good to have because they eat other unwanted bugs such as mosquitoes?? Aren't they called Daddy long legs??

Would love to know what his insurance company had to say.

How awful, but my mama always told me it was bad luck to kill a spider. That story proved her right!

I recently saw an email with stories with the 50 best (or worst) "moron of the year" candidates. This guy would be in the top 10 at least! Men.

Makes me think of the movie "Mouse Hunt". They destroyed the entire house to get rid of it.

I use Miracle II products. spray inside and outside of house. works great. What don't like at all is snakes.

Hah! I always joke with DH when I see a spider, "Oh great, now I'm going to have to burn the house down"...this guy took it a little too seriously!

Not a very smart man. You can buy any, roach AND spider spray that works fine and doesn't cause that kind of damage

In the end, the spider both lost and won!

My dad would take the daddy-long-legs and put them very gently outside. He said they ate the mosquitos. I, on the other hand, flush them down the toilet hoping they can swim. Regular spiders get murdered. Yuck!

Spray them with hairspray. That stops them!

I usually give spiders a pass because they eat other bugs (and they are too fast for me to catch them). But in the new place I just moved to, there are spider webs ALL OVER the outside of the place and they actually poop on the windows.

Is there some common household product I can spray to deter them from making webs there? It is vinyl siding with lots of weird angles that are perfect for webs.

june bugs are bad --their larval form eat roots of trees and ornamental shrubs/bushes. in this area lady bugs bite (hard!) in the fall & spiders just crawl back in ....kill 'em all is my motto. :D

Speaking of spiders, I must share a picture of one, I took yesterday. It was on my back door. You'll notice it only has six legs but it you look closely, you'll see a nub on each side, where legs may have been. I did a Google Image search and it's supposedly called an Isolated Thorny Legged Lynx Spider. Cute, isn't it? :D In reality, the body (without legs) is only about 1/4" long.

Forget the sprays. Just use a fly swatter, if you want it dead. :D

I don't like spiders either. We had inset service fora long time and one of the things I was told was to be sure to vacuum the track channels for the windows. Spiders like to lay in wait in those tracks, but if there is nothing there, they won't hang around. Wish someone would tell that to all the critters trying to take up housekeeping in my garage
