I ran across this website and it's full of old photos. This one made me think of everyone that loves the old machines. This photo has a million details!

I was thinking how well groomed and attentive these students -- were compared to ours today....until I read down the comments list and discovered it was a staged photo shoot! Pooh!

Neat, neat old classroom setting though!

Perhaps not really staged, just a little. Most of the comments say that most of the machines have to have the belts put on them before using. Each girl had to learn how to set up their machines.

About the Photos
Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

That is my old home ec class. ......j/k

They look so prim and proper. I admit I had that hair style in grade school.

Looks like they were working in pairs. One is sewing and the other is pinning. I love the cabinet in the top left. Great pic, thanks for sharing.

I can't help thinking about all of the kids that don't receive home economics classes today. Schedules are too full and money too short to include this for all students desiring them. Fun picture!!
