The water in the Gulf is always clearer and prettier that on the Atlantic.

sounds like a great trip! but I gotta say Canon City is a great place to go on vacation too. Sure did like that town when we were there.

There are great quilting shops in and around Sarasota. There is also a lot other wonderful things to do including visiting the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens right on the Bay (large orchid collection among other things), the Ringling Museum, Myakka State Park, and on and on. But the quilt shops in that area are great! Plus, there is just relaxing.

The beaches on the Gulf side are perfect! You'll just love Clearwater and all the little towns up and down route 19. My favorite town is Tarpon Springs - the Greek sponge divers, little shops and amazing restaurants there are so worth the trip. I go 2-4 times a year as my parents live in a lovely little town called Holiday, just south of Port Richey, and I always go to Orlando to visit my sister. Disney is a must see, but it can be very pricey - go online for package deals there if you plan to do Disney.

Stop by this area, if you can! We are on the coast of GA/FL, right on the border. Look up Cumberland Island, GA./ St. Marys, GA.
You are welcome to stop by here... :) |
The gulf coast has much to see. Naples is a nice drive south from Venice and near there is the Corkscrew Swamp Audubon Trail. Ft Meyers has the homes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison (neighboring lots) to tour. North is Sarasota and Tampa with many interesting spots to visit. You can google 'Florida quilt shops' and get a list. Be advised that almost every private quilt shop I've found in Florida is closed on Sunday.
