Grip Tape

1 Attachment(s)
Some weeks ago one of our members told us about using a grip tape used for shower floors, bath tubs etc for our rulers. I did order some and am thrilled.
I first tried putting it across my ruler (see picture) and it worked, BUT then I decided to try putting it the length of the ruler and lining up with the 3/8th marking!

What a wonderful discovery! Its close to where you'll be cutting so your fingers press down almost right on top of it. It does not interfere with any ruler markings, does not go (sort of) bumpity bump over the horizontal strips (the strips are not as fine as scotch tape).

This is the tape: ( sorry the link is so long!)

I ordered 5' at 2" width and applied just 1/4" to my ruler.

Looks nifty!

Thanks for the info! I just ordered 2 feet from Ebay. I have one of those big grips that looks like an old-fashioned phone handle but it's way too big for most of my rulers.
This stuff will be perfect!

thanks for sharing

That's terrific. I have some trouble with my ruler moving when I cut. Thanks.

Some of mine have the gridlines strips and some have curity medical tape. A while back someone on here talked about the curity tape. It works fine. Can be bought in pharmacy section of most stores. It is clear and has tiny strips of filiment and that holds to fabrics when cutting.

How easy is it to remove? The tape I put in my tub is not going to come off without a fight!

I ordered some of that and it looked really good when it came. Thanks for reminding me. I have no idea where I put mine.

Removal is very simple and leaves no residue! Lift a corner and pull off! Now I'll pull off all of the horizontal ones.

I was the original poster of that. A friend who was with me at the quilt show, and bought some there, also ordered a roll off of Amazon and was disappointed when it came that it didn't work. She said it was because it's a very fine grit and what we bought at the quilt show was coarse. So be careful not to buy it with a fine grit.

Hi Just..., I bought from Amazon and I would not call it a fine grit. The tape itself is not as thin as scotch tape. Trying to figure out what to compare it with!

This is exactly what I bought:

It works wonderfully and idoqlts, I pulled some off that had been on my ruler for 2 weeks. just had to stick a fingernail under a corner and pull. Very easy and I thought that it may even be usable as a temporary aide several times. I hope you find success with it.

I would advise any user of a similar item to place it vertically down the cutting side of your ruler!!

Kitsie, it sounds like you bought exactly what we bought at the quilt show. The bottom of the tape is thick, not like scotch tape. It looks like what we bought in the picture you posted, too. But I didn't know there was also tape available in a fine grit until my friend bought it by mistake, and wanted everyone to be aware.

I bought some off Amazon also. It works well. It is better than medical tape. I like clearer (less lines) rulers for some of my projects and so the tape is perfect for those rulers. The original posting advised that you should use an older scissors to cut. I used my utility scissors from Harbor Freight (89 cents). I am in the process of putting the tape on all my templates. The roll I bought (2" x 5') is ample and I will be sharing with my friends.

I have one of those suction cup "phone handles" and it is awkward at best to use.. This looks like it will be much better!
