Does anyone else have this problem, (grubs ruining the grass) My husband is at wits end because it looks so awful. He works so hard to make it look nice and it usually does. We are wondering if they came from a maple tree we planted about 3 or 4 years ago. The yard looks terrible, all torn up and full of holes. DH put down some Grub-X but it doesn't look good. Maybe it takes time. Really need your help on this.

I live in Iowa and have grubs also. Once you put down the stuff (We use the Bayer brand) it takes time to kill the little buggers! Than you have to reseed the area they killed. By putting down the stuff early in June (maybe earlier where you are ) you can kill the larvae before they hatch. I've been told they come from the June bug eggs.(?).

BTW: we have used Grub X but it only works if it goes down before the problem starts. I think I 'll stick with the Bayer brand.

Is it patches of dead grass, or dug-out holes? If it's round holes about an inch-and-a-half across, you could have a skunk. They dig for bugs and leave lots of holes behind.

Ever try plain old Diatomaceous Earth? This is something that lots of folks use on plants for the soft insects. I put it in water and spray it on my tomato plants because it is so fine powder that it should not be breathed in. It dries to a whitish film and cuts tiny holes in the insects so they dry out and die. I also used to put it in most food for my dogs for worms. It's also used for an insecticide and in cat litter. A very useful thing.

I have a terrible time with Grubbs and have never found a solution :hunf:

We also have the Grub problem,that then gives us the skunk problem. They sure make a mess of the yard. My DH is a firm believer that "Mother Nature" will take care of her own...and as silly as that sounds...he is right. After you cut the grass 2-3 times, you don't see the grub/skunk holes anymore and we don't get Junebugs as a bonus.

I believe in Mother Nature as well. All things here for a purpose.

Thank all of you friends who answered with your thoughts and solutions. I will let my DH read this post and see if it gives him any ideas. Right now he is having another problem ...a toothache. Will see the dentist tomorrow and find out if it can be saved or ??? extracted. Thanks again. If we get a handle on this grub business I'll send it along.

Out he came! We weren't quite ready for it that quick so DS went & got a shove & a Rubbermaid tote & I put the hose back in again & flooded him out again! Got him with the shovel & put him in the tote! It was so funny! But more of them came back & we still have them digging up our yard. I have heard to put Diazonon down but like all the others said, you have to do it early in the year. So next year I am going to do just the perimeters of the yard & see how that goes. Pesky little devils!
