I'm a lefty and have broken that arm 2x! It's not fun at 10, nor at 40... ;-)
Here's to all the Southpaws!

I am a lefty and can use my righty one also, call me ambidextrous. My dad taught me how to use both hands at a very young age. He was a "corrected" lefty.

Anniedeb 08-12-2019 09:43 PM

We have an almost even mix of lefties and righties in our family. My youngest is a leftie, as are half my brothers and sisters. My son writes with his hand curled up and around his paper. Teachers often tried to change/correct his way of writing. Drove me crazy!! I gave him a plaque that reads "Everyone is born right handed, only the gifted overcome it!" Happy Lefthanders day!!

Yippee - will we get cake!

luvstoquilt 08-13-2019 03:21 AM

I am a leftie as are my sons. My late, right handed husband had to look for the “right hand corner” in restaurants. Lol

Iceblossom 08-13-2019 03:33 AM

When I worked with engineers it seemed like more than the usual number of them were left handed. We had enough that when we went out to lunch there was a left handed side of the table :)

You go lefties! This world isn't shaped around you but it is a better place with you in it :)

AlvaStitcher 08-13-2019 04:06 AM

My DH and I are left-handed, although I do a lot of things with my right hand. Primarily eat and write with left. Our son is right-handed. Both DH and I angle our paper to the right and do not turn our hand like we are writing upside down. Three ring binders were always a problem.

juliasb 08-13-2019 04:14 AM

Lefty all the way! I recall my kindergarten and 1st grade teachers trying to 'correct my habit'. My right hand is pretty useless and always has been. Makes for a great creative mind though.

Tartan 08-13-2019 04:41 AM

Both my sisters are lefties. Celebrate being special!

Watson 08-13-2019 05:27 AM

In the "old" days, we weren't allowed to be left handed.
Growing up, I used to get smacked by the teachers for using my left hand. The result is, I write with my right hand, with a left hand slant!
So, I'm an honorary lefty.

Watson

My mother was a leftie and teachers punished her for that. As a result, her handwriting was terrible. I, too, am a leftie. She took me to school and told the teachers to leave my handwriting alone-- that she had already taught me to write. I had teachers who moved my paper so that my paper was in the same position as the righties; no wonder lefties had such a hard time learning to write. I do hope that we are "over" trying to make everything uniform for students and respect students for their individuality.

Iceblossom 08-13-2019 06:21 AM

Watson, I am basically ambidextrous and I had to be taught the "I write with my right hand" in first grade... didn't get smacked but I got yelled at quite a bit because I would just pick up the pencil/crayon with whichever hand was closer.

My handwriting has always been horrific!

grannie cheechee 08-13-2019 11:24 AM

My DH writes right hand, and shouldn't. We figured out that when he went to school at 4 the nuns taught him to write with his right hand. He could play sports with either hand so we figure he is really a Lefty. Happy Lefty Day, Everybody.

jhoward 08-13-2019 12:44 PM

My daughter's three kids are all lefties. She and her hubby are righties. : )

tranum 08-13-2019 01:24 PM

Awww wish my Dad was alive. He was kind of proud of his left-y status & he had the most beautiful penmanship too.

ccthomas 08-13-2019 05:51 PM

I celebrate being a leftie that was changed to write with the right hand, cut with a left hand, eat with the left hand...it appears the teacher only noticed writing with a right hand. I might have been awesome as a total left hand person.

Quilter 53 08-14-2019 08:26 AM

Not to detract from all you creative lefties, but my cat is a lefty! He is the only cat we've ever had to do this, so it was really noticeable to us when he moved in.:D

leonf 08-14-2019 03:40 PM

I was at a family picnic with a GF. Mom told her," I didn't remember you being left handed" I was holding her right under the table.

Why are all cameras right handed?

KwiltyKahy 08-14-2019 07:38 PM

Both of my sons are left handed. I'm not, sometimes that is very frustrating, for all of us. But don't forget "If the left side of the body is controlled by the right side of the brain, only left handed people are in their right minds".

nativetexan 08-15-2019 04:33 PM

Now I am right handed but remember in school, sitting in those little desks with the sort or wrap around top.. i would turn my body facing sideways out of the chair and turn my paper sideways on that tiny top and write well that way. Always had terrible writing anyway.

Chasing Hawk 08-16-2019 08:22 AM

As some of you know I come from a long line of Left handed people. My Dad, some siblings, my children and a assortment of relatives.

In Kindergarten my teacher tried to make me a righty, I rebelled of course :) So she called my Parents, boy she was in for a shock. When she explained the situation Dad stood up and told her he was left handed and to stop forcing me into something that wasn't meant to be. She didn't like the fact she had to, as she explained, take extra time in teaching me and I did things backwards.

My oldest son, Anthony is a lefty he writes a tad different. You know how when you first learn to write they give you the alphabet on lined paper with arrows on which way to write each one. Anthony starts at the end of each one.

Chasing Hawk 08-16-2019 08:27 AM

I do a lot of things "backwards" drives my husband crazy....lol Although I am a lefty, I can't use left hand things like scissors.

Dad always said, "Being a Lefty, you have to grow up in a right handed world."
