Happy Boxing Day!!

To all my British friends, including Canadian, Australian, New Zealanders, etc! One more day to enjoy the holidays! :D

Sorry Americans, you have to work today! :(

Many Americans are not working, since today is the official observance of Christmas (since it fell on a Sunday) and most businesses (except retail) and all public offices are closed. I'm having a lovely boxing day. :-)

Don't know what Boxing Day is? In the "old" days when the milk man, the butcher, the green grocer, the tin smith (to repair pots and pans), and others used to come to the door, boxing day was the day they each had a little box that the household was to put coins or a gift into as a yearly "treat".

We liked it even in modern days because Christmas could be for family and Boxing day for visiting and cleaning up.

Thanks for the explanation of "boxing day". Do your retail stores open for boxing day?

I don't really know! I've lived down here since 1981!

Thanks, girl! Fortunately SIL had installed my new water heater so I was warn and clean with left-over ham and Girardelli fudge!

Boxing Day is an English tradition. The day after Christmas the people in the manor house would invite their tenants in for a meal which they would serve to the tenants. Included in the day was a boxed gift usually meat or preserves given to the tenants.
