To all who celebrate, (and remembering my great grandmother) (taken from Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville)

Joyous Hanukkah!
by Eva Grant

At last! At last! Hanukkah is here!
The whole house is bursting with holiday cheer.

Pancakes are sizzling as hard as they can,
Browning delectably crisp in the pan.

The dreidels can scarcely wait to be spun;
Presents are hidden for Hanukkah fun;

And there, on the table, polished and bright,
The shining menorah gleams through the night,

Like the oil lamp in ancient history,
That burned on and on miraculously!

And each flaming candle proclaims the great story
Of the Maccabean heroes, their deeds and their glory.

Very nice.

Thanks! We enjoyed the first night last night with the grandchildren. Kids thrilled with their "share" present - a mini donut maker. And it was quick and easy and we all loved the donuts.

no,,, I don't celebrate. I was raised catholic. I do always set out a small menorah at chanukkah, and light a candle each night. My favorite priest always did this, and I loved the way it made me feel. I leave ours up through christmas. Just Because... thank you for the good wishes. :-)

That's a nice sentiment!

I realize all I know about Hanukkah is a menorah and that it's 8 days. Are there any other rituals/practices that go along with it?

For the other holidays, I usually hear my next door neighbor's music as she does the prayers. She's 90 years old and hard of hearing, so I can say she's "blaring" it. She plays some beautiful music on Jewish holidays. But I haven't heard anything so far.
