Happy New Year everyone!!! PICS of Oregon!

4 Attachment(s)
Happy New Year! I haven't been on much lately --- lurk sometimes. Was very busy for the holidays and then RESTING!!!! Some of you have told me to post more pics of Oregon ---- so here are some that were taken today (btw -- it was 6 degrees when I woke up this morning!!!)

This is the area behind our house (wish we could see it from our house but can't). This area mostly is Newberry Crater. It's a National Monument. The whole of Newberry Crater includes 2 lakes and Paulina Peak -- The Peak is part of the huge volcano that blew about 1900 yrs ago. It's like Crater Lake, however, it has 2 lakes instead of one and they're shallower than Crater Lake. It became a monument in 1990. On the edge of the monument they're doing drilling to see if geothermal heat can be obtained. It was national news late in the summer. I'm praying they don't change the "landcape"!!!!! We live about 3/4 mile from where DH was standing to get that first picture.
The pics are of Paulina Peak and a bridge at Paulina Creek. Paulina Creek is all run-off from the snow off the peak.

Your pictures are great. I also have snow in my back yard. It is snowing in fact right now.

Susan G. 12-29-2012 12:37 PM

Absolutely breath taking. I love snow, it looks so clean and fresh.

suebee 12-29-2012 12:43 PM

gorgeous pics!!! 2nd, 3rd or 4th pic would make great Christmas cards :) beautiful for sure!! No snow here in the valley, but lots just a few hrs from here :)

Joyce DeBacco 12-29-2012 12:48 PM

Well, we don't get snow where I live in Southwest Florida, so your pictures look really beautiful to me. Not so beautiful though if I still had to drive in it.

Absolutely beautiful pics. I love snow and cold, as long as I have a nice warm house to be in.
We got some snow last night, about 2", we live ontop of a high hill and usually get more than the lower elevations around us.

Quiltaddict 12-29-2012 08:53 PM

Beautiful pictures; I'm just glad I don't have to live in it.

RIDGEFIELD 12-31-2012 04:08 AM

Beautiful pictures. They would make a nice postcard.

ElaineDu 12-31-2012 04:39 AM

love the pics. I think if I lived out there and had a view like that I would make sure I had a sunroom/ dewing room to where I could sit and look at the view all the time....

A1penny 12-31-2012 04:59 AM

Love the pictures, but you can keep the snow! I like looking at it now only in photos. I use to ski and skate and loved those years of fun in the snow, but now my bones creek when the 'word' snow is mentioned on the news.
You live in a beautiful area where you can admire the snow filled views. I live in NYC and the snow turns black in a day or two..and is just depressing.
Wishing you a happy New Year!

Can I steal your photographs to make some art? They are wonderful and unique!

This makes me wish I still had my cabin in LaPine. Is that the little deschutes river?

amandasgramma 12-31-2012 07:59 AM

MaryKatherine -- You most certainly CAN use the pictures for art!!!! Be sure to let us see the results!

GraceMooreLinker -- Cabins are available at a LOW price here right now! It's discouraging to see how the prices have dropped! More so than in Bend........ That's Paulina Creek that comes down from Paulina Peak....all snow runoff. Runs east to west.....and soaks into the ground before it gets to Hwy 97 (about 5 miles or so from Little Deschutes). It ultimately in 100 yrs will end up in the underground lake that becomes our well water. :) GOOD water. You know, you've given me an idea. I think tomorrow we should go for a drive up past Little Deschutes and see how close we can get to Wikiup (lol not far I'm sure)....I'll take more pics!!!!!!! :) :) Happy New Year!

BRRR! Nice photos,though!

Grandma Peg 12-31-2012 08:01 AM

Wonderful pictures! Love the snow at first and then it just seems winter last too long for me. My old bones just don't seem to warm up after I've been outside.

Mariposa 12-31-2012 08:01 AM

Terrific pictures! So pretty!

caspharm 12-31-2012 08:02 AM

It looks lovely! Happy New Year!

DeAnne-Mn. 12-31-2012 09:35 AM

So beautiful!!!!!! Thank you for posting. Just read a novel with very descriptive word pictures of Oregon. Now I have seen some of the beauty described in the novel. Again, thank you and Happy New Years.

topstitch 12-31-2012 12:15 PM

Your photos look like Hallmark cards. It is beautiful but I'm glad not to have all that snow to cope with. I live in Va. and a flake and a flurry sends everyone into a panic. Then they go to the grocery store and buy up all the bread and milk.

Lovely pictures....Happy New Year to you! :)

ging10ging 12-31-2012 06:59 PM

Beautiful Pics. They look so nice from Fl. it's a little warmer. Tomorrow they expect 80 degree and today we had to put the heat on for a little while to take the chill out. Happy New Year's to everyone. Sue

amandasgramma 12-31-2012 07:07 PM

I have to say, I'm thinking we REALLY need to go to Arizona next winter. My feet and toes are FREEZING> It's 19 degrees here right now. I'd love some of that 80 degree in Florida weather!!!!

Deb watkins 12-31-2012 07:51 PM

Glad to see that someone has started a Happy New Year posting. I have just over an hour my time till the new year begins. Will spend the 'ball dropping' in the outdoor hot tub with some wine....after I sweep off the 8 inches of snow from the cover! Have some deck lights that will reflect the snow nicely. NYr resolution as far as quilting goes - not to be pressured into doing something that I REALLY don't want to do...quilting should be a pleasure, not a chore. Placed a last minute order from H of Paduchah.....20% off till midnight...even on sale fabric. Peace and blessings to all of you in this upcoming year. May your thread not tangle, your cuts always be true, the bobbin not snaggle, and you love what you do.

amandasgramma 12-31-2012 08:51 PM

Deb -- that's an excellent resolution!!! And I'm jealous of the hot tub in the snow!!!!! Happy New Year and blessing to you for the lucky year 2013!!

I love your pics. They make me homesick. I lived in the Eugene/Springfield area for 10 years when I was a child. I remember being able to see 3 Fingered Jack, Mount Shasta? and taking trips and driving by the Sisters. It has been almost 33 years since we moved back to Texas and I still miss Oregon. Thanks for the memories.

Beautiful pictures!! I've always wondered what it's like to live in a place where there is such natural beauty that you can see everyday. I've lived in St. Louis (born and raised) Iowa where you see farms, and Louisville, KY where you just see a river front downtown.

alwayslearning 01-01-2013 07:35 AM

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos from a beautiful part of this world! Happy New Year.

Abby'smom 01-01-2013 08:56 AM

pictures are beautiful -- so glad we don't have snow or ice here at the moment (snow is rare but ice happens)-- it's cool (mid 50s) and damp and dreary looking outside -- I do enjoy seeing snow scenes!!

quiltjoey 01-02-2013 06:38 PM

Your pictures show how beautiful Oregon in the snow. I have never had an opportunity to go there. Living in SC where it is 53 degrees now and rainy, my thermostat is on 73 and I'm under a blanket in my long flannel gown and robe! We skied, skated and sledded when we lived in Ohio in the 70's and it would be so cold with wind chills -40 degrees. My car doors would freeze so I would use a Bic lighter to heat the key to get it open! Can't do cold now as these old bones just don't take it anymore! Happy New Year!

Beautiful scenery; thank's for sharing.

Beautiful pictures. Snow is something that I never see where I live.
