Harvey

It appears that Harvey is going to be at least a tropical storm. Here in Houston, I'm apparently going to be on the dirty side of the storm which isn't a good thing. We're expecting a lot of rain this weekend. Hopefully, no high winds. Everyone who is in Harvey's path, be prepared and stay safe.

Stitchnripper 08-24-2017 05:14 AM

Oh dear. We moved from South Louisiana and the one thing I don't worry about anymore is a hurricane. Of course I still worry about my friends. By the time any remnants would reach here, they would be minimal if at all noticeable. I hope it all comes and goes with no real problems.

Tartan 08-24-2017 05:48 AM

I saw on the weather that some spots may get a foot of rain. I hope you are spared the worst of it!

Bobbielinks 08-24-2017 06:01 AM

Prayers for you and yours.

cashs_mom 08-24-2017 06:16 AM

Thanks, everyone.

Alyce, still keep an eye on them. Hurricanes can go pretty far inland. When Ike came thru my friend near Bowling Green, KY had more damage to her house than I did to mine mostly because she never thought it would get to her and hadn't trimmed her trees up or prepared in any way.

nativetexan 08-24-2017 06:44 AM

Yes, I"m up near Conroe so more bad rain for us. I'm on well water so i told my son to be ready to fill a large plastic tub in the garage if it looks like we will lose water service. At least we'd have water to flush the toilet with.

cashs_mom 08-24-2017 08:36 AM

I bottle water from the tap and fill the dogs big self watering dishes. If it looks like it's going to be really bad I have filled the bathtubs and some large buckets for cleaning up and flushing water. So far, I don't think this is going to be that bad. Mostly just a lot of rain. I do feel for the people in my neighborhood who lived near the bayou. Some of them are just getting their houses back together from the tax day flood in 2016

Chasing Hawk 08-24-2017 09:08 AM

Accuweather and Fox Weather say Harvey will be at least a Cat 2 hurricane. I saw a forecast for excessive rain up to Waco and just about halfway to Dallas.

Prism99 08-24-2017 11:14 AM

ABC just announced it is cat 3 now. 12-20" of rain, 30" in some isolated areas. :(

osewme 08-24-2017 11:35 AM

Hoping that the rain doesn't come all at once. It's going to sit over us for several days before moving on & Houston is known for flooding streets. Praying for safety for everyone in harm's way.

dunster 08-24-2017 02:35 PM

Innova (makers of the Innova longarm) just announced that they are expecting 20+" of rain in the Houston area starting Friday. Their communications provider for their 24/7 support has told them that they won't be providing service for them starting at noon on Friday through at least Monday. Customers who need support are told to call their local dealers during that time. It looks like it will be a serious storm, although we can hope it fizzles out and doesn't flood Houston again.

Jingle 08-24-2017 04:30 PM

Yes, I heard today that Harvey turned into a hurricane. I haven't checked since this morning.

I hope it fizzles out before it reaches land.

cashs_mom 08-24-2017 04:39 PM

I'm just hoping it blows out. Usually we get two cats down from what it hits land at. Husband is outside doing some stuff. I've been putting water in gallon jugs and freezing them. I'll be bottling more water tomorrow. Plus I've put some filtered water in pitchers for us to drink.

Truck is full of gas. We have food and paper plates, flashlights, all the normal stuff. Of course, we don't have the generator that my husband has been talking about getting ever since Ike

quiltingshorttimer 08-24-2017 05:35 PM

oh dear! What I heard on news tonight sounds just awful--be very careful all that may be impacted!

Rennie 08-25-2017 05:17 AM

I have family in New Braunfels and in Mineola, Tx, so keeping an eye out on them -- and prayers for all! Hang in there....

cashs_mom 08-25-2017 06:14 AM

Its raining hard here now. I need to go into the office to do some backups in a few minutes. I'm hoping that electric holds but I'm figuring we'll lose it sometime tonight. Even though I've been thru this before and know how to prepare, I'm still a bit nervous.

Thumbelina 08-25-2017 06:46 AM

Stay safe will be praying everyone gets through this safely.

mojo11 08-25-2017 06:51 AM

Praying for all of you in the path of Harvey.

Bug Lady 08-25-2017 07:18 AM

I am in the Austin area and expecting 7 inch by Sunday. My boss said I could work from home on Monday and have brought my projects home. I do plan to quilt this week end.. Stay dry.

We moved to Seabrook/Kemah two years ago. We have never been in a hurricane. My son has a three story house and we will be on the second floor. It looks out over the channel from the bay of Galveston. We have plenty of water, food and a go bag packed. I am going to try to get some sewing/quilting done before power goes out.

JanieH 08-25-2017 09:23 AM

I am in Houston also. I was in Missouri (Chillicothe) for the eclipse and then on to Hamilton and Missouri Star Quilt Company (yes, it is as great as everyone says!). Then my niece called about Harvey and I was fortunate to be able to change my travel plans and got back into Houston late last night. Glad to be home with my cats and so I can be here "just in case". I have learned to make hurricane preparations at the beginning of June so have plenty of supplies and don't have to brave the stores.

Hope everyone affected by this storm stays safe!

osewme 08-25-2017 10:33 AM

Houston is expecting lots of rain over the next 5 days. Hopefully it will come in waves & have time to drain off some between those waves. My DD's office in Houston flooded 2 times this year & she doesn't need a 3rd flood. It takes her anywhere from 6 months to a year to get back to "normal" with clients & such each time it floods. We feel relatively o.k. at our home & we did get a generator put in after Ike (since we were out of power for 30 days after Ike). So we should be o.k. as far as power. We are on a septic system & water well so we should be o.k. with that as well as long as the generator works.

vschieve 08-25-2017 03:20 PM

Am in Austin. Been cloudy all day, and just this second received "Breaking News" from our local newspaper that Harvey is now a Category 4.

sewbizgirl 08-25-2017 03:31 PM

I also just heard that the storm has increased to a cat 4. cashs_mom, sounds like you are well prepared but still be careful. Hunker down and stay safe! Prayers for all living in the areas affected.

ube quilting 08-25-2017 03:38 PM

Well look how quickly things change. Now it is a cat 3 hurricane. No dancing in the rain with this storm. Stay safe.

Check the time stamp on that info. As of 45 minutes ago it was cat 4, and NOAA has it currently listed as cat 4. It was cat 3 four hours ago.

mountain-moma 08-25-2017 04:27 PM

Praying,All that is in the line of this storm will be safe

maryb119 08-25-2017 04:35 PM

I have a niece in Corpus Christi. Just found out she is safe and evacuated farther inland. What a relief!!!

cashs_mom 08-25-2017 08:04 PM

Harvey made landfall near Rockport. I don't know where its going from there. There are lots of computer models out there. I'm going to stay up for another hour or so and watch the coverage to see if I can get an idea of where it's going

Battle Axe 08-26-2017 04:08 AM

Watching all this on the weather channel. Am high and dry in Indiana. Tell us all about the trip to MSQC.

carolynjo 08-26-2017 06:23 AM

When we lived in NC and were on a well, I filled gallon jugs with water and placed them on the basement steps. This is a habit we still use.

Carol in WI 08-26-2017 07:09 AM

Goodness, but I am praying for all of you in Texas - this is a huge storm. My daughter and her family are on a cruise in the gulf - they were rerouted to NO, but will be leaving for Galveston this evening. They are safe but may not have a car when they return to the port. I pray that all the agencies can work well for the recovery and safety of everyone. It is a time like this when I want to be closer to help with the recovery process.

Jeanne S 08-26-2017 10:08 AM

I am in Austin visiting our daughter and new baby. So far just some wind and rain, hasn't been that bad here, but I know there was lots of damage along the coast. Hope everyone stays safe!

NatalieF 08-27-2017 11:49 AM

Watching the news and praying everyone is safe! This is terrible.

osewme 08-27-2017 12:13 PM

We are o.k. here. We haven't had any electric outage & no flood water in house. For some reason our septic system stopped working so if that's all that happens to us I feel blessed.

Jingle 08-27-2017 01:30 PM

I watched the weather channel last night. Did not sound good for anyone in it's path.

cashs_mom 08-27-2017 01:39 PM

We still have power and no flooding at our house. Some in the neighborhood haven't been as fortunate. We appear to be in for several more days of this so we're all just hoping for the best.

SusieQOH 08-27-2017 02:27 PM

Cashs-mom- I'm really sorry for all of you. Looks scary on the news :(

nativetexan 08-27-2017 05:02 PM

i just heard the last hurricane like this was in 1961. my sister and i were in high school then and home alone. she slept through the night but i watched every old Tarzan movie they had on television. who could sleep? with this one i did sleep so far.

cashs_mom 08-29-2017 07:37 AM

I think that Hurricane Ike was worse as far as wind and damage and having no power for several days, but we are having more rain with Harvey. I've been watching the level in the creek that runs thru our neighborhood and it was down a little this morning. They are doing a controlled release of water from the reservoir which is probably helping, but I heard the one dam it still cresting. The heavy rain seems to be moving east so if it lets up for a while here, levels should go down. We're still okay. A local store brought in a huge shipment of fresh food yesterday so we stocked up again and are good as far as food goes. It's day to day here
