Bras. Hate them. Need them. Kinda like jobs. |
I found one but it is a sleeping bra and doesn't give much support, it is very nice especially if you are lying in bed! I hate the underwire that is so high in the middle you almost stub your nose when you bend over.
|
Simple answer...NO. They were invented by men to make our lives miserable.
|
I hate underwires. Hate, hate, hate them. My fave bra is from Lane Bryant, I've been wearing them for about 10 years now. When they get old, they start riding up in the back and that's how I know it's time to get new ones!
http://www.lanebryant.com/sexy-plus-...at=4044%406000 (the picture is kind of weird - the bra on the model looks WAY more saggy than it looks in real life.) ps DogHouseMom - I was HOWLING with laughter!!! |
Thankfully I've never had the need...lol

What an experience, I will never forget the saleslady who had a chest like the prow of a battleship who burst into the fitting room and embarrassed me half to death! Even those bras were uncomfortable.
Recently I read about the Bra-lelujah (sp?) and it sounded so great so I splashed out on one, what a disappointment. It is ugliest bra I ever saw - a horrible color like old nylons (in England they called that color "American Tan" - ugh) and the seems are so poorly finished. It gives no support and, worst of all, the back rides up and is so uncomfortable. I was driving and kept having to take one hand off the wheel to yank it back down. There is no way to adjust the fit as it has no fastenings: the instructions that came with it said to step into it, after dragging it over my big hips its no wonder it has no support! Any ideas, anyone? I can't bear underwires or, worse, those seamless molded cups that look like styrofoam coffee cups. [I just realised that I have revealed more than anyone wants to know!] The one you DON'T wear!!!! My favrite kind!! I was lets say well could put 'Dolly' to Shame   And Had mine put under control!! you could say!! So have Decided that I only Wear one of Those "Horse Halters" if I go to Church, Dr, a Funeral (not mine) Its right up there with shav'in my legs :!:  |

We all need to be liberated again. Why do we get stuck with stuff that makes us uncomfortable? Just say "NO!" (You all go first - I'm chicken, alas.) |
This has been too funny!!!
I have been wearing "Godiva" bra's. Unfortunately they are underwire and they cost about 50 - 60 each. Comfortable???? Not really, I too get them off as soon as I can in the evenings!!! |
Face it ladies..."comfortable bra" is an oxymoron.
|
I am flat chested kinda with a BIG BAND area.My brother use to tell me looked like a boiled egg with 2 strings tied around it.Well,we were kids then, but same still holds.I re-make my own.I get "Rhonda Shear",and get her other one,the sports bra. They are so comfy,Rhonda Shear {on ebay, way cheaper than HSN}and take the padding out of the one. They have a WIDE elastic lace pretty bras. And go up to 4 X which really stretch. And if the straps fall,{of which hers don't}I use a string,or safety pin and tie them.Around home,I'm bra-less.Period!When it's 124 degrees in the shade, with 100% humidity, like it is here in the summertime,no bra is coming near me.Oh,I forgot.I also in a pinch, use a pr of cotton panties.Boy shorts,or regular.I cut a slit in the crotch, and cut the front lower. Now,there's a comfy cheap sports or sleep bra.And use new ones out of the package. As I got some boy shorts and didn't like them,so made bra's out of them.Since then,I also made them out of briefs.Perfect fit!And NO riding up!And no worry about straps falling. They can't+

Victoria Secret has some of the most comfortable bras..They have just about every bra imaginable

We have this one bra that almost every woman with a larger bust walks out loving, has generous straps without being overbearing and good support. I definitely think people should give themselves the best chance and get fitted right because the look of relief on a woman's face when she tries on the right bra to the point she walks out the store with that one on instead of her old bra is well worth the pain of trying it on and the store assistant giving you way too many to try on. Good luck ladies :) |
Uncomfortable to say the least, Unhealthy, I think so. Restricting the bloodflow to any part of the body is asking for trouble.
|
i went to bra fitter, a speciality shop..cost me 70 bucks, eventully bought 2 of them. i love them..i was so far off in the size i was wearing. so worth the price. hand wash, and told me NOT to use the famous hand wash stuff. but to use baby laundry detergent. (or the bra wash they were selling.)

All of you are too funny - should have known the messages would be great on this board.
DogHouseMom - you said it all, I am still giggling and it's all 100% true! Jim's Gem - I think I will stick with Godiva chocolates. Besides, wasn't Lady Godiva the woman who rode through town on a horse, naked? Perhaps she got home and realised the need, after being on a horse, and invented bras? Do bras have a patron saint? FavoriteFabrics - Thank you. I think I will try the cotton bra you recommended. I forgot some more complainte |
Sorry, my finger touched something wrong...
complaints about the damn things - hot in the summer and sometimes itchy! Remember those cotton (woven cotton, not knit) bras with the spiral seaming on the cups...Der Valkyrie comes to mind...they were so itchy and when washed, the fabric shrank slightly between the seams so you got a ruched effect... |
I hate bras & I have never found a comfortable one. I wear the one-piece body briefers. I think bras were invented by a man, they should have to wear them.

I love underwires. I have had great luck with a couple of styles at Lane Bryant (Cacique). Wonderful support.
|
Dear adorabowe, so what brand was the one that most larger busted women liked? Is it available in the U.S.? Thanks
|
Comfortable bra must surely be a contradiction in terms.
Le Mysterie (sp?) is the closest I've ever come to comfortable, but at $85.00 too much to invest in a drawer full and I like most take it off as soon as I hit the door each day anyway. |

I always go to a specialist bra shop and get fitted, as each make is different. They are not cheap, but I get long wear out of them.
|
I wear a mastectomy bra. No, I still have both of mine, but a friend said they were so comfortable. I can't get my arms back to fasten one, so these hook both front and back, I use the front hooks. They are the most comfortable I have ever worn. No riding up or straps slipping down. They stay put where I put them. If I have to wear one, this is it for me. Check them out at a pharmacy. My friend's husband is a pharmacist.
|
I think I'll have breast reduction surgery then burn my bras! Wouldn't that be liberating?
|
I have been wearing underwire since I was 14, well-endowed (thanks, Mom). Why can't they figure out how to keep the wires from poking out through the fabric eventually? Here's an idea - don't give them pointy ends!! How many hours have I spent trying to repair and sew patches to get a few more months of wear out of it. Never works. Now I just take the wires out when it gets to that point and wear them around the house.
We live in a rural area so I don't wear one unless we are going out or I am expecting company. I do have one, brand name Chantelle, that is quite comfortable. I also like Balis and have experienced good customer service. When a wire broke in half they sent me a new bra. |
I am trying the new bra from Playtex that claims the straps want fall off your shoulders and IT WORKS! ! ! They are underwire but the most comfortable one I have ever worn. And have been wearing one for near 50 years.
|
I went to two of these so-called bra fitting specialists for extra-well-endowed people.
My experiences were definitely in the bah! humbug! waste of money! category. They didn't have the proper size, and like an idiot, I bought what they had "on hand" Won't do that again. I don't have backaches, I am lopsided, and I don't want to have surgery. My cups do, indeed, runneth over. And I have gotten a lot of laughs out of this thread! |
I use to wear under wire they were less uncomfortable and they had more support but since surgery 5 yrs ago All bra's hurt with or w/o a wire So now I wear mens under shirts -the tank top kind -I buy a small cause its tighter fitting and if my strap shows while wearing a ladies tank top its not considered gawdy -and in the winter I stay warmer then I ever did wearing a long-john shirt
|
Boy, as I sit here with mine cutting into my shoulders, I can sure sympathize. I am large on top, and have never found one that didn' hurt somewhere. Either the straps or the bottom band, etc. But I keep looking.
|
Had to follw this thread all the way through - lol!
I too am well-endowed. I actually fly out to Edmonton to visit my daughter and while there invest in one or two bras at Dawn's Bratique. (I have them note which bras fit me best so I can phone and order another when my daughter & SIL come at Christmas!) These bras range from $89 to almost $240 - BUT I can wear them for years! Just retired the first bras I bought there 5 years ago. My favourite brand: PrimaDonna and I used to love Olga but my favourite style was discontinued. Go get properly fitted - and don't leave till you LOVE the fit. Then buy/order 2 or 3 and rotate wearing and washing. |
Forgot to say - I'm 42H

No one that I know. Weren't they invented by a man?
|
Yes, my daughter sent me 2 from Switzerland without fitting they were astonishing perfect and beautiful lacy, I was so glad and surprised.
|
If anyone could make a bra that conforms to every shape, has lots of support and doesn't ride up, they would be RICH, RICH RICH!!!!!! (OH YES AND IS comfortable!) I read this thread in hopes of discovering the miracle bra!!
|
The best bra is one that remains in the drawer...but alas, I'm not that brave.
