Has anyone tried the Yonanas Ice Cream Treat Maker?

I have a gift certificate from the kids to Bed Bath and Beyond. Here is the link that has a little video attached. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...p?SKU=18484749

The reviews generally are positive for this alternative to high calorie ice cream, which btw my husband can eat by the gallons and never gain an ounce, so I rarely get to eat ice cream. Why? Because all the high calorie things HE eats goes to MY hips! LOL

Who better to ask than the quilter's here on the board if this is a worth while purchase?

I haven't tried it. You might want to check out the additional Amazon reviews on it:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...0Treat%20Maker

It probably works fine. The limiting factor would be how much you like soft fruit treats. Basically it turns out frozen pureed fruit. The texture might be similar to soft-serve ice cream, but it won't have the creaminess of ice cream. Also at least one of the reviewers said it was annoyingly difficult to clean afterwards.

This seems to be similar to what the Vitamix blenders can produce.

My daughter has one and says it is really good. She puts in frozen fruit and veggies.

we have one and used it quite a bit when we first got it last summer. But, haven't used it since then. The bananas, fruit etc have to be frozen when you use it. I'd buy it again knowing I'd only use it in the summer...it makes excellent treats! I don't think it's that hard to clean...

My daughter does the same thing with her "Ninja" mixer.

Thank-you for the replies, so glad to hear that it isn't hard to clean. I've had the gift card for a long time and finally think this is what I will use it for. Love soft serve ice cream but can't 'afford' the calories, DH can eat ice cream by bowl fulls just before bedtime and not gain an ounce...

Did you use your yonanas yet? I have used a blender but I am reading that the texture is better with the Yonanas. Any thoughts?

Yes, we did use the gift certificate for the Yonana's and we both decided it is much over-hyped in our humble opinion and returned it. We also own a Vita-Mix and can get the same results using the Vita-Mix blender and in fact AGAIN in OUR opinion get better results. I haven't checked Amazon's reviews on this since it's been over a year since we bought then returned it...but I usually trust the reviews there.

Thanks for responding. I think if I do get one, it will be from somewhere I can return it if it doesn't perform as advertised. I don't have a Vitamix though.

I did decide to give my smaller Ninja blender container a shot. It produced a creamy ice cream like result, but of course it still doesn't take like ice cream but close enough for me. I just have to remember to freeze the bananas, etc. and take them out for a little thawing before I blend them up.

I told my husband that someone had asked about the Yonana's and he reminded me of another reason we decided to return the machine is that it is a bit cumbersome in that it takes up space either on the counter or cupboard. Being the age we are and trying to downsize after nearly 50 years of marriage it was just 'another' thing that seemed like a good idea but would in actuality be used infrequently.

I'm glad that you have found another use for your Ninja blender!!!!

Me too. I actually love the Ninja. It came with two size containers, and I always use the larger one for smoothies in the morning. But the smaller one was perfect for the banana frozen dessert. And like you, I don't need another appliance.
