My hair was always been a dishwater color and so I have colored it since I was 17. I don't think I want to stop now; beside which my husband has told me he doesn't want an old gray-haired wife. Of course, his hair is milk while, but then I think it looks much better on a man.

yeah, but you can really do some great things with foil highlights..being blonde sucks sometimes...trust me, I am a hairdresser and I know these things...

I have been toying with letting my hair go gray.. but I have such lousy hair.. very fine, very very straight, and not a lot of it anymore! So not only do I color my hair, but I have to set it in curlers or I have this straggly, flat, awful looking mess.. I have it long so that at least when the curl falls out (which is if a breeze blows past it, or a rain drop falls on it, or it's going to get foggy later on) then I can put it up and it's okay.. not good, but okay.. If I let it go gray, it would look gastly... just can't stand the idea of having children running away and women crying when they saw me coming!

I use to highlight my hair then I wanted to donate it so I had to let to gorw out. they wanted virgin hair. It was past my waist and then was told I couldn't donate as they will not take gray hair. I cut it shoulder length and left it natural. I would say about 1/8 of it is gray. I will grow old gracefully no more highlighting for me. On top of that I don't have the money to do it even though I always did it myself since I was 16, no salon for me,

I love my salt n pepper hair and would not dream of coloring it.

My hair started turning in my 40's with white steaks right down the middle in the front and than some gray and than more white and gray mixed in.

You know what they say about gray and white hair...... gray are the lessons learned and white with lessons learned come wisdom.

My mom's oldest sister had the most beautiful white shiny hair and my mom was like me salt and pepper color.

I stopped coloring my hair about 9 months ago--as I let the gray grow in, I had it cut very short. To my surprise, it came in silvery-white and VERY curly. I just wash it--towel dry--and that's it. I keep it short now so it curls naturally.

colored for a long time but got tired of looking like Pepe LaPew (white stripe down middle of head) so went gray and love it - feel I deaserve every one of them!

argranny 03-28-2011 06:53 PM

yup, been this way for a long time, went gray in my early 30's in 1995 i had brain surgery and had to let my hair go natural, my DH said he loved my silver, so I never colored it again.

me too! I have earned every one of them
I would rather spend money on other things than hair colouring

I have......

I have a one inch strip of grey off the top side of my head. It hangs to the right and it the length of my hair. I kinda like the Bride of Frankenstein look.

And a few long strands the length of my hair all over

Who needs Lady Clairol!!

Ther is a time and place for everything. Dyed my hair a few times when it felt right. Now thinking of streaking it either aubern or ?. Or maybe not due to the financial situation.

I caved, after 4 months of 'letting it go' I went back to the hair salon. Maybe when I turn 60 in 3 years....maybe.

Marion Jean 04-17-2011 04:05 AM

Tried it once - I'm actually salt-and-pepper. Saw a picture of myself and thought it made me look 10 years older - went right back to the bottle!

You know that is so true for me too but the money is something to think twice about! If it wasn't so long & thick I would do it myself. I tried that for years but gave it up when a friend said I had a "biker chick" look. Good friend, right? ;-)

At72, my hair is still black in back and whit in front. I dyed it for 20 years and at 70 said no more. I got a really short, chic haircut and feel like a million dollars. Much healthier way to go also.
