Yes, on occasion. And on occasion I read someone else's post that seems very deserving of a response and no one has responded to it.

I figure when that happens, the post either didn't strike a chord with people or else they didn't feel they could reply positively - though then again, people do post their disagreement with something.

I often want to just reply with a thumbs-up to something someone posted, but then I'd be ignoring all the other people's replies. So I rarely do that unless I have something of my own to add.

However, when I start a thread, I try to acknowledge every reply. Then I worry that I'm overdoing it and should back off and let people talk to each other without me commenting on every post.

So it's a fine balance. I think the only time lack of response would bother me is if I think I had a brilliant idea or insight and no one acknowledged it. Most of my ideas/insights aren't of that caliber, though, and most of the time I suspect I'm stating the obvious. Too obvious to comment on.

You keep posting and keep being you and please don't let it get you down. We need everyone on here and you are important to us.

I love this board, I try to read just about everything, staying up late to do so. I haven't been quilting very long and just by reading all this I learn something new everyday. The people on here are wonderful, it seems like all of them are friends. I don't post much and I don't want to post pictures of my quilts because I think mine are awful compared to what I see on here.

This may be off topic, but please don't ever feel like your quilts are not worthy to be posted. We would love to see them!!

Sometimes when it's a post of pictures of quilts or something, and everyone is just saying "nice, beautiful, etc.", then I usually don't post. If someone is asking opinions, suggestions, etc., then I will post if I can put in something that adds to the discussion. If not, then I don't. I don't have hours to spend here, so I don't read everything. If you are around for a while, and post on a lot of the threads, then people start recognizing your name and will answer more often, too. Just keep going...it gets better!!

And here I figured it's just because I tend to say things that are not along the general line of thinking. :twisted: Even at that, there are lots and lots of times I don't say anything, trying not to offend.

I have noticed that some people keep their threads near the top of recent topics by responding every time someone adds to their post. There seem to be lots more new topics happening since the advent of the PDAs. I think the "old-timers" went there for the most part.

I think it comes down to time, sheer number of members and the speed of posting and sometimes a difficulty in expressing a view clearly. A message board is very different from communicating with people "live", so it does take a bit of getting used to. We are also a very diverse group, so sometimes there are cultural differences...this all adds up to missing some discussions or losing a thread now and then.

I'm one of those who tries to respond to replies to my threads. (I wrote about this in my earlier post on this thread.) I just want to make it clear that my purpose is not to bump my threads back to the top.

That is not my purpose either, but when someone ask a question or you have more replies to make I think it is quite acceptable. I don't pay attention to who may be purposely bumping up their topic. If you have to do that to keep the thread on the first page, then maybe the topic is not catching as much interest.

I didn't mean this the way it has been interpreted. In fact, I wish to retract that part of my previous post as I can't think of a way to phrase my thoughts without causing offense. In retrospect, I wish I had not written that and apologize for implying something I didn't mean to.
