I realize all babies develop different skills at different ages. But today, the baby I nanny for (I affectionately call her "my baby.") pooped in the potty - twice. And she is seven months old.

I know the parents had been using the potty chair when she appeared to be preparing to poop. Well today, she was "tooting" and squirming like she usually does before she poops. So for fun I decided I put her on - she still can't even sit without a little support. And sure enough she poops. After she went the second time, I'm convinced she knows what she's doing. I'm absolutely amazed. I thought the dad was a little bit nuts when he told me he bought her the potty chair... I've never even heard of trying to potty train a child until at least 18 months for the most mature.

Do you know of other babies that potty train so early, or is my family just full of slow developers?

My daughter started pulling off her diaper at 9 months to use the potty chair. She watched her older sister and she just had to copy her. Worked for me!!!!

Mom had all of us potty trained by the time we could say "Potty" which was around a year old. It's my own opinion that it's not so much potty training the child as it is training the adult to keep and eye on things and actually get up to do something about it. But, whatever works. I also think that some of today's mothers are too busy to deal with potty training---especially with all the so-called experts saying to wait.
My daughter was humming recognizable tunes before she could talk. If she was humming Old MacDonald and you asked if it was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star she'd frown but if you named it right she'd smile. Babies can learn a lot more than what we give them credit for. BTW, DD sings very well for an 11 yr old.

my daughter is almost 2, but she started pulling her diaper off and wanting to go on the "big girl" potty around 11 months (that's when she was walking) I didn't attempt to put her on a potty before that. She's still not 100% potty trained, but we're working on it.

I think your baby sounds like a potty prodigy!! That's really early!

I was potty trained at 9 months and my kids, I also was watching an older child and showed an interest so Mom started training me.
I started training my kids as soon as they started walking... they were all fully potty trained by 14-16 months :D:D:D

I am old school, and think we are waiting too long now to start them too.

when my oldest dd was 6 months old, she would make a funny noise when she needed to go potty... we would put her (holding her) on the toilet and she'd do her job... had her day potty trained by 18 months.
When DGD was 12month old she would be dry in the mornings so we'd sit her on the potty chair and she'd pee and then we'd put her diaper on. She was completely day trained and mostly night trained before she was 2 till the daycare she was attending fired her teacher... she reverted back and it took us till she was almost 4 to get her completely trained... Yes, they know more than we give them credit for and things affect them more than we realize.

don't be surprised if they slip back. Everything in it's own time.

I teach at a pre school and we have so many children that want to come but can't because they are not potty trained. We are not equipped for diapers. Some of these children are 3 and 4. I think it is rediculous.

I think the baby has the parents very well trained.
