Have you ever lost a diamond?

Cringing over a lost stone from the wedding ring. Realized today that one of the three diamonds in my wedding/engagement set is gone! I remember scraping the ring as I lifted something from a shopping cart over the weekend. It could have been at one of two stores, but to find the right parking spot...ugh. It'll never happen. Not even sure that's when it dropped out.

If you've ever had a similar experience, what did you do? Did you get the diamond replaced? The jewelry store it was purchased from is no longer in business.

Lost my whole wedding set when I left them in a hotel room in Las Vegas. Filed a claim with our household insurance which gave us the maximum ($5000). Used that to buy another set.

I lost mine and my insurance paid for it to be replaced. Now I have the prongs checked every year or two.

I lost my diamond ring this past summer but later found it. We had been working outside all afternoon in the chicken yard & doing some repair projects. I also had cleaned out the truck because we were going to take it to the shop the next day. We retraced all my steps & tried to think back to what all I did. I went to check out the truck & found it behind the seat where I had taken a large bag out. Talk about a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. The diamond in my ring was given to my DH by his grandfather who use to have it in a tie tack that he wore. Then my DH had it mounted into an engagement ring for me.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Hadn't even thought about insurance helping pay for repair. That gives me something to think about.

I lost a diamond in one of my earrings and went to a trusted local jeweler to have it replaced. They didn't even charge me for it. I bought them at their store quite awhile ago.
I have no idea how the stone fell out! They are half circles with 5 small diamonds in each one. Somehow I lost it.

I lost my entire engagement ring. I know it's somewhere in our old house, which we still haven't completely cleaned out (it'll be getting demolished). It's driving me insane because I know it's in there. I need a diamond-sniffing dog.

I lost both diamonds on my engagement ring when I was engaged. It was in the restaurant kitchen I was working in. I stayed late hours sweeping the floors trying to find them. I never did, though I searched for days. I felt terrible but luckily my future DH, then fiance, understood. We went to the jeweler where he bought the ring and they replaced them.

I saw the stone fall into our gravel driveway the first time I lost the diamond. Had it replaced, then lost it again many years later. Decided to get a new ring with 3 diamonds, and retired the wedding ring.

I lost one of the tiny diamonds beside the centre diamond in my engagement ring after 7 years of marriage. Cost around $100 to replace it. Not enough to claim on insurance. Now I get my rings checked every couple of years.
BUT I have a funny story re: wedding/engagement rings - before one of my surgeries - the first at a major hospital I was told both rings had to come off. At our local hospital, they just taped fingers together before surgery and I took it off when I was coherent. I only left my wedding band on. Well, it had been many years since that band had left my finger and we could not get it off. Tried everything. I was only leaving the house in a wheelchair (I live in a rural area) so I call the jeweler in the town about 15 minutes away - could he come and cut it off my finger. I explained the situation to him but he couldn't come due to insurance reasons. So my DH got his Dremel tool and guarding my finger with a metal nail file, proceeded to grind/cut the ring off. Took a while as the area kept getting hot! But we got the ring off. There is probably gold dust in that recliner. Took the ring to the jeweller to have it resized and fixed. He took one look at my poor bend and twisted ring and said "What the hell happened?!" My DD replied "Well you wouldn't come to the house..."
He charged around $100 to build it back up and size it AND checked my engagement ring and polished everything at the same time. No charge for the extra gold required.
