My newest grandson was born with club feet. At nine days old he was casted on both legs up the the top. He can no longer have regular baths. The problem is his messy diapers are getting on the white casts that cannot get wet. My daughter has cut up tube socks to put a two inch banding on the casts but there is a lot of fuzz getting in the baby's private area. My question is, isn't there some kind of sleeve banding that I could use to make these little bands? I don't know what you call that to try to find it or do you wonderful people have any other suggestions? Thank you!

How about sports bands? You know the ones they wear around their wrist. I have a daughter with a burn scar and she wears it to cover the scar from the sun as it is susceptible to cancer.

knit ribbing is what it is called- you can buy it by the inch in most fabric stores (like joann fabrics) it comes in a variety of colors and widths....many of us buy it for sock tops-and sleeve cuffs- it would work nicely for your need- and i (think) you could scotch guard it and make it somewhat (water proof)

Absolutely ... as the medics what to do, being that they must have had this issue in the past!

Any medical supply company like Norco should have a suggestion.

How about cutting up old (clean of course) mens cotton underwear and socks? Doesn't have to be fancy all the time. My friends 9 mo. old broke his leg and had to be in a cast from ankle to waist for a couple of months - and in the hot humid summer. You can only imagine what a 9 mo. old can do!

There's a product called "coban" that's used as a bandage wrap. It's self-adhering, it doesn't stick to anything but itself. It is also used by vets a lot for animal bandaging. It's soft and doesn't create any lint. It can be a little expensive but it could be helpful in this instance. It can be found in the wound care area of most stores.

Isn't there cast material that allows kids to swim in the summer?.....meaning it can get wet? I just know my friend's son had an arm cast like this. I mean, we can have a man on the moon, create a space station, take out Bin Laden, develop alien-looking aircraft, create something like facebook, but after all these years we can't make a cast material that can get wet ????:shock:

I can't get over how anyone would cast a baby this age and not have a ton of instructions for dealing with this problem; they've surely run into it before! Have you googled the subject? I swear, sometimes the computer has more sense than the medical community, it seems.

He's the cutest little punkin who doesn't seem all that put out with his new restrictions! :-)
