I was just listening to tv. They showed a clip from Columbia, South America. The young people there have begun a new game(I don't think I would call it a game!) They lay on the railroad tracks between the two rails while the train rolls over them. Noone has been seriously hurt yet, but one has lost some fingers.
Authorities are thinking about getting the message out not to do this.
Would you really have have to think about getting the message out not to do this?

Butterflyspain 09-18-2010 09:54 AM

Elel

DebraK 09-18-2010 09:55 AM

Quiltforme 09-18-2010 09:58 AM

I just don't get their infatuation with death. We just lost a young man to the hanging game. He was star athelete popular and he made a stupid mistake that cost him his life.

emt2004 09-18-2010 09:59 AM

People are so crazy ! Just wonder what this world is coming to......Michele

Sadiemae 09-18-2010 10:05 AM

What really got to me was that they have to think about tryig to the get the informaion out not to do it.

Butterflyspain 09-18-2010 10:10 AM

Young people donīt seem to value life, I think it is very sad that they are prepared to do this for kicks. Are they just too thick to realise that if they do this they can die?????

we have a third rail on our train tracks, where I live,it is electrified, and some youngsters try jumping over it as a train goes by, several have been killed and they issue all these warnings too, go into schools etc, the train companies get the blame. It is the idiots who take this risk, they already know its dangerous thats why they do it. Crazy!!!

pookie ookie 09-18-2010 10:23 AM

That game is as old as trains, unfortunately. I know of two people who died and one who lost a limb.

quiltmaker 09-18-2010 10:32 AM

Good Grief how awful!

lawsonmugs 09-18-2010 10:44 AM

Hi Sadiemae hope your doing well. sometimes I think putting these things on tv and such just gives others the same ideas.Like you said shouldn't have to advertise NOT to do this. Makes you wonder what's goin on these days. I never had enough free time to do much of anything when I was younger. Mary

Sadiemae 09-18-2010 11:09 AM

I just never knew these things were happening. I live very close to the tracks in my hometown. Kids don't have any interest in them, and if they did the police would be there in a heartbeat. There are a few kids that run the streets, but very few. They are kept very busy with school, church, etc... I think I am really glad I don't live in a big city.

lawsonmugs 09-18-2010 11:12 AM

Me too. Population here is a little over 700 No tracks in our town. but I don't even live in town.Nearest tracks are about 15 miles away. Mary

amma 09-18-2010 11:23 AM

We have several deaths a year around here that are pedestrian/messing around RR track related, and others left with serious injuries... when will people learn to stay away from these tracks?

janRN 09-18-2010 11:25 AM

I saw the same thing on tv and my first thought was they deserve to lose life or limb; then my "better self" thought they must be really bored to do this, not just stupid. I wonder if there are any activities for kids this age to do in this area. With unemployment so high and no tax base our town has cut out so many things. The kids around here do something called "car surfing" where they stand on the roof of a car and the driver drives around a parking lot or street trying to have them fall off. One young girl was severely injured. These are our future leaders.

I commend you for having a better self, guess I don't about this sort of thing. :|
I don't believe kids today are taught the value of life, of self control, of personal responsibility, or the skill to apologize. They learn their moral code from rock/rap stars, video games and TV.

Because they can't reason - it isn't taught in school, rote memorization is - they are unable to fathom the dangers of their behavior At that age, it's natural for the brain to think it's immortal.

In schools we have no more Golden Rule.
No more prayer, deep "thought for the day".
No more writing "I will not talk out in class" (or whatever) on the blackboard 150 times.
No more "staying in" from recess or after school for misbehaving.
And very few parents any more who will "put the fear of God into you!" after being called by the principal about their kid.

Every day I meet more and more home schooling families who are just sick and tired of worrying about the failure of our public school system. "It ain't your grandma's day anymore!"

Jan in VA

lawsonmugs 09-18-2010 12:25 PM

No is isn't granma's day anymore but it could be better. It's never too late. Too bad it takes both parents working a paid job to support a family. My sons are 37 and 45 and both are over 6ft. they both know I will take them down in a hot minute if they show disrepect. and I am in poor health. they could put me down in a hot minute too but wouldn't dare. Mary

ptquilts 09-18-2010 12:56 PM

Funny, I was just reading about some culture where women who wanted to get pregnant would lie face up on the tracks and let the train go over them. Face down if they wanted to terminate a pregnancy. Weird.

I agree, sometimes it seems people don't think of doing something like this unless they hear it from some source. Would love to keep the whole world safe and happy but can't.

SherryLea 09-18-2010 02:16 PM

Until America gets it's morals back you will find kids doing stupid things as they have no structure in their lives. And it is not just kids we have have many adult that have no regard for human life. It is sad but we as adults are the ones who are suppose to be in charge of our children but today I find it many times the other way around.
So Sad.

Ditter43 09-18-2010 03:51 PM

I hope that doesn't catch on here. There are enough ways to be maimed or seriously injured without putting yourself in the situation. :|

MadQuilter 09-18-2010 04:03 PM

There is a program on TV called 1000 ways to die and after watching it a few times NOTHING surprises me any more.

clem55 09-18-2010 05:40 PM

I agree with JAn. School is almost a joke anymore. Parents need to wake up and parent!

Stupid is as Stupid does...

janRN 09-19-2010 05:02 AM

I hate to blame the internet for these stupid acts because of all the benefits it has given. But, I really think you-tube and cell phones have given freedom to people to be stupid and post it on the internet. If no one knew about your stupidity and paid no attention to you, maybe you'd redirect your energy into something positive. Like Andy Warhol said: everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame. I think you-tube is encouraging stupid and outrageous behavior. Who films all this stupid stuff and why???

quiltluvr 09-19-2010 08:36 AM

Every generation slips that much farther and we live in a time that it just doesn't seem, that left unchecked, is going to get any better. The problem with the moral decay and general lack of respect is more than any parent, community or government can control, regulate, or change. Often tried but never successful.

Thankfully there is hope and there are families out there who do try to swim against the current so to say in an effort to teach and train and dare to be different.

mytwopals 09-20-2010 12:06 PM

If they're that stupid, let them please die peacefully and not procreate. There are already enough stupid people in the world.
