My wonderful self-employed bon vivant son has decided to move to Austin, where living might be cheaper than NYC. He has never been to Austin but hears it is a great place! I will hate having him so far away but... there must be good quilt shopping in Austin?!

I am sure there is good shopping in Austin. Think of the move as another opportunity to visit new shops (smile).

"The Quilt Store" on W. Anderson Lane in north Austin has WONDERFUL fabrics and LOTS of them. There's also a store in south Austin on Brodie Lane. It's a vacuum and sewing machine store (they do repairs). They have some wonderful fabrics too, but not nearly as many as "the quilt store".

Living will definately be cheaper there, but income may be lower as well. It's a great town with an energetic feel to it. The University of Texas is there along with many music venues. They call themselves the Live Music Capital of the World. They are also the state capital so lots of goings on because of that.

The weather will be calmer than NYC. Some cold, occasional snow, but nothing lasts very long.

Sorry he will be so far away - that's always hard! - but now you have a place to stay when you visit the Great State of Texas. :)

Another adventure!

I love Austin, one of my most favorite cities to visit. There is a lot of culture and activities there as well as great food. Embrace your son's choice and you will be embracing his foray into a life adventure. I love the LBJ ranch and library, as well as the University of Texas.

It seems like a great place for a "foodie", and for quilt shops. :-D Life is an adventure
