Help on mattress decison
We're thinking of "investing" in a Tempurpedic mattress. Because I know the cost is high, I don't want to invest in something we may regret. How about some feedback from this group about your experience and/or knowledge of the brand....it will be greatly appreciated.

We have had our tempurpedic mattress for about 6-7 years now and love it. Have had no trouble with it at all. We got the adjustable base with split king since DH has sleep apnea and uses a bipap and has to have his head elevated. I can't sleep that way, but love to be able to read in bed with my side up even if he wants to sleep. A great investment.

Love Love Love ours we have the same base as Misty's mom and its wonderful. we got it about 4 years ago and think that its well worth the investment. As a side not my sil has one too after about 7 years they noticed it sagging one phone call and less than a week later they had a new mattress delivered no fuss no muss.

What kind of linens do you use for that bed?

Are you looking for the mattress only? Or for the mechanics of the bed?
If you are considering the mattress only, my advice is to check out Sam's Club and similar places for a good quality memory foam mattress topper. A couple of years ago my husband started having back issues with our mattress. I talked him into trying a king-sized mattress topper made out of memory foam, probably similar to this one: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/4-press....ip?navAction= . We are still using it! Recently my brother wanted my help to buy a new mattress. I talked him into trying the memory foam topper first, and it worked for him also. If you don't like the memory foam topper, I would expect you wouldn't like a Tempurpedic mattress either. If you do like the topper, you may not need the mattress. Edit: Check the store's return policy if you purchase the mattress topper. I know that I was able to return a memory foam pillow to Sam's Club. If you don't like the mattress topper, you may be able to return it. |
Also, be sure to get the one that has the cooling part to it. My husband sleeps HOT and cannot use the Tempurpedic. I had several clients have to return them when I was handling claims and the doctors felt the injured worker would benefit from one. And when we were looking for a new mattress the salesman said he had customers return them for the same reason. I understand there are new ones that have a "cooling jell".
|
Some of the mattress toppers have that "cooling" side too. I know the one we bought for my brother has it (which reminds me to call him to flip it). Not sure ours has it.
|
I have a Tempurpedic mattress, used it for 10 years in Oregon and hope that it will still be comfortable now that I'm in SoCal. My son and his wife had one in SoCal but thought it was too hot. I've used a topper, but its comfort depends very much on the quality and comfort of the mattress beneath it. There are also other brands of memory foam mattresses, usually less expensive, worth looking at.

My son got one of those that Misty's Mom mentioned, but he got it from QVC which turned out to be cheaper, had easy pay, and a better return policy. But, they love it and aren't returning it.

After tons of research (both online and testing various mattress/base combinations in a brick and mortar store), we bought a "DynastyMattress Split King 12-Inch CoolBreeze GEL Memory Foam Mattress with S-Cape Adjustable Beds Set Sleep System Leggett & Platt Made in USA!" on Amazon about 3 months ago. This model was/is comparable to a Tempurpedic Rhapsody Coolbreeze on the same frame and cost about 75% less. It's a fabulous bed and we are very happy we purchased it. Feel free to PM me if you want any additional information.

Best mattress we ever had and have now is the Casper mattress. I have them on every bed in the house. When my kids moved out they took their mattress before anything else. LOL
|
Where ever you buy the mattress make sure the store has a exchange policy. You might think you want a hard/soft mattress then find it not the right one for you. I got a firm surface and found it was too hard. Returned it for $100.00 and got a medium one.
|
I had the topper for a while and did not like it because it doesn't breathe and made me too hot. And that really takes a lot. I am the coldestperson alive, so you are getting a lot of opposing reviews. Good luck with your decision

We have a Serta I-comfort which is Serta's memory foam mattress, I have the one with the cool gel layer.
I love it ... my husband not so much. We both agree it's tremendously comfortable, but he thinks it's too hot. It should be noted however that my husband thinks a regular spring mattress is too hot. I agree that my husband is indeed too hot in bed (and no, that was NOT a rude comment, I'm talking pure fahrenheit here!). |
We have had our Temperpedic for about 3 years and I never had a better nights sleep than with this mattress. We also got the split king set up--like two twin beds set next to each other. I do get a little warm, so usually just use a top sheet. Bought two sets of split king sheet sets at overstock.com that are great. Or you can just buy 2 long/deep fitted sheets. 1 king flat and the pillow cases separately.

We bought a Tempurpedic years ago when it first came out and my DH and even I (who runs cooler) were too hot and we lived in the SF Bay Area at the time. We ended up buying a new mattress less than a year after buying the Tempurpedic. |
You might look into http://www.intellibed.com/ They are also a bit pricey, but its by far the best bed I've ever owned. We have a king in the bedroom and purchased a topper only for the RV. Couldn't live without it.

We just bought a new mattress and we bought from Verlo (they are all over and build their mattress) The reason we went with them as they will take back your mattress and rebuild (for free) as long as you own it. It also is the one with a base that is completely adjustable and they put a top on it that isn't hot. A new breathable fabric that stretches and not hot. Am anxious to get it. Comes Thur.

DH has back problems and we've owned every mattress made. Luckily we learned to ask about return policies because it takes a few nights to determine if it'll work. Can't be shy. Spent more on mattresses than we did for many of our cars. We do have the cooling gel topper on our guest bed. Turned it over for the winter for the warmth. I also have a topper to put on my pull out couch.mone topper we bought did puff up and Sams exchanged it for us. Also when the mattress wears out, have them come check it out. We got a huge refund due to the guarantee that it would last so many years but wore out early.

Thank you for the great information. Will do some more checking on everything....then decision time.

I have several sisters, a brother and BFF who all have Tempurpedic mattresses and they absolutely swear by them. Most of them have back and other health related issues that have been relieved or greatly relieved by switching to Tempurpedic mattresses. When we sell our house and move, I plan to get one, but until then, I just don't want to add another item to be moved.

For those of you who have the split king mattress, how comfortable/uncomfortable is it in the middle of the bed? Can you feel the split? How well do the mattresses stay close together?
|
You can't beat Casper return policy. You get to sleep on it for 90 days and decide if you want to keep it or not. They will pick it up if you aren't happy. No extra costs at all.

I've had a tempurpedic with the adjustable base for over 10 years. I absolutely love it. About 3 years ago my husband and I bought 2 twin extra long adjustable beds from Costco on line for our second home. They are made from memory foam and are very good... but they are not tempurpedic. They are not as soft and comfortable as the original. I no longer sleep well if I'm not on a memory form mattress.
|
We have a sleep by number bed and have had it for years. We love it -- only have room for a queen though I would love a split king.
|
Mimi, I hope you have an IKEA nearby. If so, go there and check out their memory foam mattresses. Myrbaka I believe is their best memory foam mattress. I bought a Sultan Finnvik model last year in queen size. It was less than $500 and the best mattress we have owned to date!! They are not hot, they fit in the back seat rolled up, of course, of your car. We put it on a platform base and let it breathe for four hours. That night, I fell in love all over again...with my mattress!! It is so comfortable! Save yourself a lot of money and check it out before you shell out $2k or more for that tempurpedic!! They now sell Myrbaka, the replacement for the Sultan.....The king size is $599!!!
