Help needed... What is your favorite web site?
I'm working on a new website and could use some quilters help.
What is your favorite website and why? Can be quilty or not. Looking for some easy to navigate, bright, fun sites with lots of photos and need some more artistic eyes to help guide my web master. Thanks in advance for your help, fellow artsy folks! |
what is your purpose? I'm guessing if you hired a webmaster, it might be for business. There are some great blogs that turned into businesses out there. I you look at the very bottom, you can see who is creating them. Your web master should be on top of that.

I can't remember what sites but I don't like fancy script. I also don't like huge written areas because I just don't read them. I like lots of pictures with captions underneath. Do you remember how they had to change the white of QB to a kinder on the eyes off-white background? The person who does www.sewmanyways.com has a good blogspot but she had to truncate her site to prevent theft of content.

For quilting stencils, I love www.quiltingstencils.com It is arranged very nicely for shopping. You don't have to wade through lots of things you don't need to find what you want.

My old eyes have problems with too many small photos. I like Pattern Review but have trouble seeing info. I get frustrated and sign off.

I agree with Lisa on the Stencil Company's site. Nicely laid out, easy to find what you want. My suggestions:
I prefer soft white/pastel background for text (not bright white, not black) Non-serif font Little scrolling side to side (drives me crazy!) A good search - If I can't find something quickly, I'm off to a different site Menu that allows me to find what I want in as few clicks as possible Clear and concise payment/shipping info You don't say what your site is for, but if it is for fabric, I also like: Ability to search by manufacture, designer, fabric line, color, theme, sale Design board color matcher decent sized swatches info on repeat distance if stripe, is it parallel to selvedge or across width of fabric |
Some websites that have colored backgrounds are harder to read. The colors look pretty, but the words don't show up very well.

My own, of course! www.SewStitchCreate.com
